Taking Eliquis For 3 Years, Can It Cause Pain And Soreness? (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on Eliquis for 3 years, after having a blood clot from back surgery. Also have Afib. I have pain all over...back pain, fibro, nerve pain. Terribly sore all time. Seems like it all became worse after I started taking Eliquis. Sometimes urine smells like motor oil. Don’t know if it’s Eliquis but I suspect it is. I have recently felt like I have some kind of arthritis. Just debilitating pain all the time. Wish I knew if it was caused by Eliquis!

I was misdiagnosed with a blood clot in my calf. I went in with pain and they read the x ray wrong in urgent care. I was sent home on Eliquis only to end up by ambulance at the ER from side effects. You are not suppose to be on that for this long. You need a cat scan to see if you’re good if in fact you know that you had an actual blood clot. I assume you did but this drug has no antidote if you started bleeding internally. They may have come out with one but as for now I don’t no. See if you can wean off it. There have been class action suits. As for me and my misdiagnosis my blood pressure was dropping just after a few days. I’m elderly and was never suppose to be on this. Problem is doctors always say everything’s fine...
Sorry you're having those issues. I took Eliquis a short while when I had hip replacement surgery. I didn't notice any of the symptoms you stated. But I wasn't on it long. You should check with your doctor. Maybe they could switch you to a different medication.
Yes, Eliquis has been known to cause such side effects, as well as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased risk of bleeding.
Have you talked to your doctor about these problems?
Are you on any other medications?
Bella, I am very sorry about what you went through. How long someone remains on it can vary, depending on their health, and what condition the medication is required to treat. You are, however, correct, that they do not have anything available to counteract it, yet.
Re: VerFree (# 3)
I feel bad for all of us who get medical problems in our lives. Someone once told me to stay far away from the doctors as much as possible. But I find that impossible. I’ve also had a chronic cough over a year now my pc told me I have GERD in which I don’t, while it had to take a dermatologist to tell me to get to a lung doctor... unbelievable.
Thank you for your concern.
I guess that as with all meds there are possible adverse reactions, and especially so since we all have various other health issue in our overall health puzzle. However in my case, I have been on Eliquis now for two years after having an episode of Pulmonary Embolism. I am still on it since they could never determine what caused the Pulmonary Embolism. In any case, even though I am taking two 5mg Eliquis pills each day, I have yet to have any adverse reactions. But in regards to your situation, as a starter idea, go to the website drugs.com and enter your entire list of meds and then select the button in the menu line that will check for "Drug Interactions". And if something pops up as major interaction issue then bring up that issue with your primary doc. And if no adverse reactions are given, then still keep hounding your doc for some additional resolution. Or if needed try another doc. For as the saying goes...It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease" Good Luck !

You yourself need a second opinion for staying on it this long.
