Taking 2 Pain Meds
UpdatedI have been taking Oxycodin and Kadian for two years. Your opinion on how well the work together, and is it likely I may become addicted. How long can one take these for chronic pain and feel safe about it?

I can speak from experence only from the point of oxycodone, check you'r family backgroung for alcholism or drug addiction and your self for an addictive personality, I warn you of the caution, but if you are truely in pain
take it only AS PERSHRIBED DEXTOX IS HELL!! you will be O.K. if you do not abuse it. GOOD LUCK!!!
if there is any way possible, i would try something other that oxycodone or oxycontin for pain. they are both so addictive!! i know. i had a terrible time coming off it.
Its true very very additcive so good but ohh so bad
I was hurt in 96. Without pain meds I would have to end it. I did drink a lot of beer but never any street drugs. I'm a member of the American Chronic Pain Associ. About every 3 to4 yrs I must take a little more. If your taking for real true control of bad pain; only 1/2 of 1% get hooked. If the Doc's find a way to help me, I'm sure that I'll not have a bad time of coming off it over 6mos. But for right now it's leting me live and I thank Jehovah God that I have the doctors to treat me.
I took both for 3 years. Detox was a little hard. But since my back pain was better, and getting that stuff out of my system, I feel 1000 percent better. Glad I had it, and didn't have any problems with abuse of it. They backed me off slowly over 16 days.
just wanted to know what difference's there are in generic oxcotin to brand,do they work as good as the brand name.i'd been on brand name oxy's for sometime now and now medicare part d steped in and put the screws to alot of people.i'd tryed some generic 40mg and it was like nothing was happening and i'd been on 40 brand for sometime,so any info would be appreciated, plus what some of the markings on generic brands and which ones are better if thats what itm comes down to..thanks
I don't think alot of people realize that anyone that is on any kind of perscription painkiller that is a narcotic for longer than two week's that there body become's dependant. I have been on almost all of the different perscribed pain meds for my lower back problem's for almost three year's now and they are all the same, addictive, body dependant and so forth. They all work the same. They are called opiod's. I have been trying to come off of these and I am not abusive now and it is terribly hard on my body. So, Please, have help if you ever decide to come off of these very good pain reliver's but very bodily depending and addicting.
I would like to know the symptom's of coming off of narcotic's. I am trying to quit any perscription pain med's and I am having a horrible time. I am doing it cold turkey and am glad to have husband here at home. He has stayed home from work to help me with kid's. He just got his vacation day's and is using that. I have been off and am doing ok mentally but physically and am doing horribly. I am afraid of a relapse soon but and doing my best to stay strong. That you for any help and suggestion's.
do you realize that kadian is morphine and oxycontin is oxycodone? how many milligrams are you taking of each? they are both a schedule 2 drug, (they go from schedule 1..which can only be given at a hospital because they are so addictive..to a schedule five..the least addictive. you must weigh the pros and cons. there is nothing wrong with becoming DEPENDENT on these medications if the pain is real. this is different from becoming ADDICTIVE. do you have a narcotic contract with your doctor? if not, you really need one.
You need to understand, there is a difference between addiction and physical dependence. Addiction is a disease, and meds are used where they are not needed. Physical addiction is almost impossible to avoid if you are using the pain meds for a legitimate reason. I have taken daily pain meds for almost 10 years, but I have to be monitored monthly, see a pain psychologist, and only get my pain meds from a pain specialist. This is the only way to do it to avoid complications. In my case, I would be bed ridden and miserable without my meds, and with them can function fairly normal, but I have to be very cautious not to take more than prescribed, and to understand some of the side effects. Long term pain meds should only be taken as a last resort to chronic pain. Anyone just looking to get high better realize that the high goes away really soon, but coming off pain medications is the most painful experience you will ever go through.
I have been on Kadian 60mg for almost 3 years. I recently had knee replacement surgery and the VA hospital where it was done did not have Kadian in their pharmacy formulary so I was put on Oxycodone instead. When I came hone, I was told that it was OK to take both! So I took my normal Kadian in the a.m. And P.m. And used Oxy in the interim for breakthrough pain. I was appalled at having to do that--fearing addiction in a major way. I did it for 2 1/2 ,on ths until my knee healed up most of the way and then dropped the oxys totally and continued the Kadian 2x a day. Did not have ny I'll effects from talking both, and did not go through Amy withdrawals when dropping the Oxys from my regimen. So in my case, it worked out Ok. Hope this helps you decide on what to do about taking morphine and oxys together.
