Testopel And Psa
(Newest replies first)

Has anyone had the experience of PSA score appearing to rise some after TESTOPEL implants being done? Three (3) months after my implants -- when it is time to do again -- my PSA is elevated, making it in the 4.77 range. I go on an antibiotic (either Duricef or CIPRO) and it comes down. My urologist is very much my advocate and knows the great many benefits I receive from this procedure. He is thinking of ANOTHER prostate biopsy, but no definite decision has been made. Although not unbearable, I'd rather not have to do this. Thoughts, anyone ????

Hi, I just wanted to reply and tell you that I had the exact same reaction except I spiked way higher on psa and free psa went to 9 and is supposed to be greater than 25. Regular psa was 7. Dr said huge red flag and did biopsy twice. Both times nothing. Then the next month it dropped way down to 1.7, very strange but it happened. I've been in a safe range below 2 ever since. That spike I'm referring to happened after my second implant. I've had 5 sets since. Feeling great and in the safe range every time now. Dr. said he's seen this before. Hope that gives you some peace of mind.
Just got my latest PSA results today, Verwon and it's the highest level I've had in 2 years. (5.43) doc sez must do my 2nd prostate biopsy or no more TESTOPEL. That sounded 'negative' and don't mean it that way. I'm glad Doc is my advocate and trust him implicitly. For some reason, I'm MORE anxious this time than the first time around. Waiting to hear scheduling. Am guessing it will be sometime next week. The whole enema thing and then the required 20-25 "snips" he does just seems to be bothering me this time. Thanks for letting me "whine" !
Verwon: I appreciate your kindness and reply to my query regarding elevated PSA after TESTOPEL implantation. I just received implants again 3 days ago and am already --as usual -- feeling some initial benefits. Doc and I discussed things prior to the procedure and came to the agreement that at the end of the 3-month time period when it is time again for the implantation, if the PSA is elevated, the prostate biopsy will be done, if biopsy results are "negative", then the latest PSA will become my new 'baseline' figure. Again, my thanks for your kindness and interest in my problem. Have a good evening.
Hello, Bob! How are you?
There have been some concerns about the effect of testosterone supplementation on the prostate, including an elevated risk of cancer, but nothing definitive has been proven, yet. Some doctors are refusing to let their male patients continue with it.
Thus, the biopsy might be a good idea.
Is there anything else I can help with?
