Syracuse Ny - Need New Dr. For My Pain Management!

Updated January 18, 2021

I was taking oxycodone for break through pain and MS Contin for long acting relief. Recently my NP at the pain clinic told me that oxy is no longer being given to patients because of the Obama Care crackdown on narcotic abuse. This medication is important for those of us that have chronic pain. I have been in 2 car accidents and have spinal stenosis, 3 bulging disks and nerve damage in my left leg. Working is difficult but necessary right now. Please help me find someone!

Preventing narcotic abuse has been an issue of importance, long before the Affordable Care Act, and persists, regardless of what insurance coverage someone does, or doesn't have. My husband and I have private insurance, through his employer, and we still have to deal with all the same regulations regarding such medications.

The FDA warns that Oxycodone carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Doctors have to account for every narcotic prescription they write, and face serious sanctions, which could include fines, loss of license to practice medicine, and jail time, if they are found to be prescribing inappropriately. They must closely monitor the patients they prescribe for, which may include extra time for pill counts, and etc. Thus, some have just found it to be something that they don't want to deal with, and many doctors have been cutting down on what they will prescribe, why they will prescribe opiates, and how much they will prescribe.

Unfortunately, this is something you'll likely have to continue to deal with, even if you switch doctors.

Did they offer you an alternative to the Oxycodone?
