Synthroid Dosage Was Changed After Taking The Same Dose For 14 Years (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on the same dose of synthroid for the last 14 years 200mcg. I previously had Graves many years ago, had radiation to stop the goiter hence the high dose of the medication. I am levels are checked routinely and the last 2 tests show my thyroids is alittle overactive so my dose was lowered. I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago. What could have caused the change?

It might just be due to the changes that have occurred in your body as time has passed. Our bodies do change regularly and sometimes a medication has to be changed, or the dosage adjusted. It's perfectly normal and actually quite amazing that you were doing so well with the same dose for that many years.

Is there anything else I can help with?
I was on 125 mcg since I was 19, I'm now 42 and the same thing happened to me last year (17 months ago). My dosage in that time has been changed at least 5 times. No reasoning can be found but I'm assuming maybe I'm in periomenopause and my estrogen is fluctuating which can affect thyroid hormone.
I am a 59 yrs old female who went through full menopause at age 24.at the same time blood work showed to be Hypothyroid. Yet the Dr. says my body showed no signs of it, he had to go along with my blood work, and placed me on 75mcg. Synthroid. thru the years its been adjusted to .125 mcg. and has been since. BUT the last few months I've gained weight, 15 plus lbs. Now I'm a small woman, petite, my high end weight has always run 104#. I haven;t had blood work in quite a while, as I have moved and not thrilled with Dr's here. I also should tell I am on a hormone patch and will be the rest of my life, which has to do with how my body went into menopause.
ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
i do know I need my blood work done, and will.....but any comments will be appreciated.
Thank you.
