I am on 5-325 hydrocodone. I took my last of the script around 7:30 this evening. I have an old script of 100mg, extended release, tramadol and figured I would take one in the am., since my hydrocodone script can't be filled til the day after tomorrow. Am I safe to take one around 8:00 am., tomorrow morning?

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu - drug interaction tool), there is a high interaction potential between hydrocodone and tramadol. However they do go on to note that because the two drugs may be necessary in certain cases, your doctor may have to adjust the dosage and/or frequency of dosing in order to help mitigate any possible risk factors/side effects (such as: Loss of balance or dizziness, slurred speech, confusion, changes in mental awareness, or slow or shallow breathing). In the event of this, 'umm' recommends contacting your doctor.

Unfortunately when it comes to self treatment it is one's duty to make their own informed decisions with whatever details they can compile. That said, no one (including your doctor) can say that you're going to be safe one way or the other, because we all respond differently...but if you feel that the hydrocodone isn't working several hours later then it may be feasible to assume that you wouldn't run into any problems with adjunct use of tramadol.
