Switching From Oxycodone To Belbuca
UpdatedMy pain mgt. doctor has decided that he wants to take me off Oxycodone 40mg per day and put me on Belbuca. I don't want to do this, but he is leaving me with no choice. What should I expect?

How is he doing the transition?
In order to start the Belbuca, you'll need to be off the Oxycodone for several days, otherwise it could throw you into precipitated withdrawals.
Belbuca contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine, so the FDA warns that it also carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Many doctors are switching their patients as a precaution to help prevent them developing opiate abuse.
Re: VerFree (# 1)
How many days should I be off? Withdrawals do not sound like fun.
The FDA states on their website that dental destruction is a real possibility for those on Belbuca. My teeth are really nice, and subjecting them to rot doesn’t sound like fun either.
My insurance copay for oxycodone is zero. Belbuca will cost me several thousand dollars per year. I don’t know how I’ll be able to afford it.
My doc doesn’t want to hear any of this. I’m truly at his mercy.
I find myself sinking into depression.
Re: Sweet Sara (# 2)
I went from oxycodone to belbuca without any problems with withdrawal symptoms. I had to wean to 1/2 of what I was taking but I was on liquid which may be the difference? Idk I started at the lowest dose which is 75mcg and there’s a large window of increasing it if necessary.
I did the switch but I chose it for myself. Unlike you, my doctor wanted to go with Suboxone or Norco. I'm about to ask for why your doctor is putting you on. It worked really well for my pain especially in the beginning. It still works and the benefit for me is that there's no highs and lows as far as effectiveness. Like with the oxycodone it worked great at first but then after a few hours I was in great pain and had to wait for my next dose. Not so with the Suboxone. I wonder what your dosage will be daily? Hopefully they will let you go up if you need more. I just like to say that I think and unfair that they're switching you against your will but of course I don't know what your doctor's reasons are. I wish you the best with your new medication! I wish I could remember what it was like going off the oxycodone. I don't think I went completely off before adding the buprenorphine/naloxone. Then again I might have. I wish I could help you there. They are right though whoever said they could throw you into severe withdrawals if you take it while on oxycodone initially.
