Switching From Keppra Xr To Keppra

Due to cost my husband’s doctor has suggested my husband go back to taking regular Keppra. He has taken Keppra Xr for about 4-5 years. Has anyone done this? They will increase the dosage of Keppra by 500mg. He is concerned he will start experiencing auras. He has not had any on Keppra Xr but did a few times on Keppra.

It's hard to say, he may experience them, again, or he may not, the only thing he can really do is try it, and see if it works for him at the new dosage.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Keppra as possibly including nausea, dizziness, unsteadiness, weakness, joint pain, and double vision.

Did his doctor feel that the auras were caused by the Keppra? Sometimes auras occur as part of the onset of seizures.
