Switched From Metoprolol Er 25mg To Tar 25 Mg Is There A Difference

was taking metoprolol er 25 mg for a year, asked the dr for something less expensive so she switched me to metoprolol tar 25 mg. yesterday was the 1st day of taking new. I felt horrible last night, is there a difference in the 2 meds.

Yes, there is a difference. The ER stands for extended release, which means that medication is slowly released, over time and the new one is a regular release formulation, if it doesn't have anything listed like ER, XR, SR or etc.

If your body is used to having the medication released slowly, over time, then this might have results in some blood pressure spikes, as well as some minor withdrawal like symptoms.

Have you talked to your doctor, or your pharmacist?

This really only applies if the new one is listed exactly as you've said, if there is an ER, SR, or etc. designation, then there might be other problems involved.
