I contracted a viral infection and devolped a terrible cough that eventually caused an inability to swallow solid food. After being hospitalized and receceiving every test possilble the medical team could not find anything medically wrong with me. Finally, after my iinsistance that the cause was a result of a side effect of Lisinopril I stopped taking the drug and in about 2 days I was able to eat solid food. Approx, 3 weeks Ilater the cough finally went away.

Lisinopril can cause a dry cough in some people and it usually lingers, until a few weeks after they stop the medication, but such a side effect hasn't been known to cause trouble swallowing food.
