Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Very good post, but if you have an allergy to sucralose or sensitivity to it, none of what you posted will help. I did all of those things, and still had a very hard time with the prep. Sucralose is a poison to those of us who have an allergic reaction to it. In addition, I still say that it has something to do with body weight. No one in their right mind would think that it would take the same amount of anything to clean out the colon of a small, thin woman as it would to clean out the colon of a much heavier and larger person. Just common sense. I hope that those of you who know that you are allergic to sucraslose will pass on this prep and ask you doctor for another. No sense in tempting fate.

I Just had my first colonoscopy using Suprep. The test was a walk in the park. However, I was never worried about the actual test, it was the prep! I've returned to these posts to help send some comfort out to anyone that like myself who needed some reasurrance. I needed to read and understand that I would be ok using Suprep. Last week I must have read at least 40 posts from 2 different websites looking for someone who had a good experience w/ Suprep. I found at least 18 posts reporting how well things went and in addition many helpful ideas as to how to drink it with more ease. I've compiled the best ideas I found from all the posts that helped me. It's a good idea to go to the store a few days before you start your prep, and supply yourself with some clear juices, According to the directions, it can be anything clear as long as it's not red or purple.
This is the list of essentials:
1. Cottenelle w/ Aloe toilet paper.
2. Flushable Fresh wipes w/ aloe. 3. One sm bottle of Peppermint extact. (dab a little on your tongue after you've finished your first dose, you won't have an after taste and you'll be able to drink the required 32oz of water) with ease.
4. Nestle's Pure Life w/ lemon flavored water.
5. A book of matches.
6. Air freshener that will neutralize the air that you breathe.
7. One straw (one very important tool).
8. Lemonlime Gatorade.
9. one sm. container of vaseline, store brand will work just fine, just dabbed a little on where it hurts.
First of all it was a good idea to have a light breakfast 2 days prior to my appt. I ate a boiled egg and 1 pc. of toast, drank a cup of Swanson's broth for lunch. For dinner I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup. One day before the appt. I drank one cup of tea in the morning. I continued to hydrate myself with water, and clear juices such as Ocean Spray's white cranberry with peach, (that flavor is so good). At 11:30am I drank a cup of broth. I didn't feel hungry. About 2 hrs before starting the prep, I refrigerated the first dose. I cont. to drink water until about an hour before I was to start my first dose. Since I knew I needed to be thirsty in order to drink the prep in a quick fashion. (the faster you drink it the better off you will be!) Before you are about to drink your first dose, be sure to have the straw, the peppermint and a bottle of lemon water ready and next to you. Add the required amt of water to your first dose, do NOT mix it with a spoon! Use the straw, stirring it a few times with the straw. Best advise was for me to remain standing as I drank it. Now drink, drink, drink with the straw, You'll taste the grape flavor, it's not too bad, catch your breath, relax you'll do fine and cont. dinking until you finish. As I got down to the bottom, about 2inches of medicine was left to drink, I noticed the taste, a little bitter, so after each additional slurp, I chased it with a sip of lemon water, (that was very helpful). Once I finished, I then dabbed a drop of peppermint on my tongue w/ my finger. Now I was able to cont. drinking the required 32 oz of water, alternating with the lemon water. And that was it, I was done drinking the prep and the first of the hard part was over. Then in about 25mins the cleansing began, and was over and done for the day within 2 hours. In between the toilet visits, I drank plenty of lemon lime Gatorade to replenish my electrolytes, and fluids I had lost. Later I went to bed around 9:30pm, slept about 5 1/2 hrs and got up and repeated everything, except, I made one mistake, I mixed the second dose with a spoon instead of the straw. The spoon mixed it thoroughly, blending the bitterness all through, tasting the bitterness and only a hint of the grape flavor with every sip, and beginning to feel nausea, and having much difficulty getting it down even with chasing each gulp with the lemon water. Once I drank it to about 3/4 of an inch of the dose left in the bottom of the glass, I was feeling more nausea, and I said to myself, "I am not finnishing that, I am not drinking no more!" "ugh!" And I didn't. I waited approx 3hrs until I was all clear, and I gladly dumped it down the drain rinsing the drain thoroughly with a drop of bleach, to kill the smell. I drank the required 32 oz of water. My appt was at 11:30 am. I stopped all liquids by 9:30am and I was fine and ready to have the colonoscopy. I wish you all the best. Don't worry, you'll do just fine! It's just a cleansing.

Ridiculous!!! It's beyond insane to have you get up to take the stuff!! My appt. is at 7:00 a.m. and instructions were for 1st bottle at 5:00 p.m. and 2nd at 9:00 the evening before procedure.

Did first colonscopy yesterday. Prepped using Suprep. Guzzled the 16-oz Suprep-Water mixture then quickly followed with some rinse. Did that twice, of course. It was tolerable. And it was a heck of a lot easier than the gallon of salty stuff my wife used for her prep earlier this year. She'll be requesting Suprep next time too.

Having first colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon. Drank 1st bottle at 4 pm. Wasn't the greatest taste in the world but also wasn't the worst. Slight bloated/ nauseaus feeling but went away in about 10 mins. Even though I normally drink watef at night, the amount needed was not bad.

Got on toilet about 25 mins later and stayed on for about 2 hours. Had a couple more trips after that.

Took 2nd dose at 9:30 (only got 3/4 down then had enough knowing I had to drink more water).
Same outcome as first time ( about 2 hrs in bathroom). Will wait up a little longer to see if it has stopped all the way.
Worst part is pain in rectum, (could be due to hemroids). Cortizone 1% did relive some of this. Also, not due to go to Dr until 1:15 tomorrow and am already starving.
All in all, wasn't as horrid as I expected. --- 43 y/o male

Update:

Had my Colonoscopy and Endo this morning. Everything was A okay. :) I took the first bottle of Suprep yesterday evening as instructed. From 6 PM to about 11 PM I basically was anchored to the toilet. After that I was up every hour and a half for the rest of the night. I decided not to take the second bottle this morning. I was definitely "clean" after going for that long. With that said, I'm female, 5 ft. 2, 105 lbs. That very well could have played a role in requiring less of the prep. By this morning I had a terrible headache, and felt very lightheaded. The procedures were uneventful. The prep was the worst part. No two people will have the same experience, but for me, it wasn't as horrid as I had been told by others.

Note: The choice not to follow the prep as instructed can result in having to redo the test.

Seems like you should start the prep sooner! My test was at 10:30 am. The day before, I drank my first Suprep at 4:30pm and my second one at 5:00 am the day of the procedure. The second dose works within 20 min. By the time I left home to go to the hospital, I had stopped going.
Really very easy!! No problems with anything and both scopes were negative. Next one in 10 yrs!!!!

My procedure is at 7 am. My instructions are to take the 1st dose at 6 pm the day before, and 3 am the morning of. I questioned if i could begin the prep earlier the day before so i could take the 2nd dose earlier, and was told "no". i dont want to be up all night going and would prefer to get some sleep. Has anyone taken it earlier and deviated from the "Package instructions"?

You'll get through it just fine, and good luck. The elimination is pretty easy with any kind of purgative. Your butt might get sore, though. The colonoscopy itself is a breeze. I just couldn't take the artificial sweetener - it made me so nauseated. The manufacturer should provide an alternative option without it. I could have handled magnesium citrate. Anyway - best of luck to you, because if you can handle the taste without throwing up, then you'll get through everything else just fine. That's actually the worst part about the whole procedure.

I am having my first colonoscopy tomorrow morning. I am using the Suprep. Took the first bottle at 6 PM. It taste disgusting, but I didn't expect it to taste good. It taste like watery grape cough syrup to me. I drank it over a 20 min period, chasing each drink with Gatorade. It started working within 20 min, and 2 hours later I'm still going. No cramping, vomiting, ill feeling, etc. I did get the chills that many mention. They only lasted about an hour and a half. Overall, with nothing to compare it to, it's far from unbearable. The worst part to me is having to stay very close to the toilet for so long. I hope the second dose that I take at 6:30 in the morning flushes things out much faster. If it doesn't, they'll be performing the procedure on the toilet. ;)

Best of luck to all!

Timing of doses

I just used this drug for my Colonoscopy yesterday. I would NOT recommend it. For me it did'nt start working until the Doctor recomended me to add a bottle of Magnesium Citrate and that was 8 hours after the first dose and 3 hours after the second dose. The Citrate helped it to start, but in the end it did'nt really clean me out that well. The test was sucessful but the Doctor said he wanted me back in 3 years even though they did'nt find any poylps. The reason being because it made things a little difficult to see. I would use something else.

I used Suprep after reading all the blogs. I was surprised that I didn't have any trouble. It does taste like salty cherry cough syrup, but was OK. To my surprise I was able to keep it all down and when I felt a little light headed I just ate some not-red jello. I took it the day before and at 3 AM the next morning. There was less fluid required than some preps. I'd recommend it.

That is a very good point, that everyone is different, and until you actually "take" a prescription drug, a prep, etc, you have no idea how you will react to it.
I know one thing...I have not felt "right' since having taken the Suprep, but since I am having thyroid problems, it's just possible that perhaps the Suprep was the straw (no pun intended :) that broke the camel's back. Next time, I will ask for the magesium citrate . Can't be any worse than the suprep, and I truly think that the culprit, at least for me, was the Sucralose.

Your beloved Diet Coke is sweetened either with aspartame (NutraSweet), which is a neurotoxin, or sucralose (Splenda), which is a bonded chlorine, having more in common chemically with pesticides than with sugar. Both are addictive. Since Suprep contains sucralose, it will not be seen as problematic by those who already consume sucralose regularly. But for those of us who, like me, are chemically sensitive (particularly reactive to chlorine), it is hard to assimilate. I have also learned that, despite the manufacturer's claims, sucralose does not pass completely through the body's system without breaking down. A certain percentage of it - between 11% and 50% -- is absorbed by the body. And the healthier the intestinal system, the greater the absorption. My colon, it turned out, is in the high end of excellent, probably because I am a long term vegan and eat only natural foods. And, as I mentioned earlier, I am also highly allergic to chorine, and have been all my life. I can't swim in a chlorinated pool, for example. So I think I absorbed a lot of it. And it was really difficult when I took my second dose of Suprep at 4:00 a.m. I had to keep alternating it with plain water. I could hardly not throw it up, and I burped and burped for hours both times, always with that sickening feeling. After the colonoscopy I was left with a slight numbness in the right two fingers of my right hand and the right side of my palm. Same with my right foot. It didn't go away after 24 hours. It wasn't the anesthesia, because it didn't contain anything that acted on the central nervous system. It wasn't a subluxation, because I've now seen my chiropractor twice. 48 hours later it is still numb. I have seen such effects mentioned online from researching sucralose, and I think it is implicated. The symptom isn't extreme, but it is persistent. I assume it will go away in a few days, but I certainly hope my body can break up the sucralose and pass the rest of it through, because I highly suspect this.

Bottom line: The manufacturer ought to offer a CHOICE: sweetened powder that one can mix in to the Suprep mixture if one wants to. I would have gladly drunk the whole bitter concoction and not mixed in the sucralose crap, which my body really can't handle.

Wanted to let everyone know of my experience with Suprep. Couple of days ago I had my prep and endoscopy/colonoscopy. I am female and 50.
After reading all the posts, I was a little scared but did learn some useful information.
After 24 hrs of a liquid diet, it was time to drink my first bottle of Suprep. On my way home from work I stopped and bought an orange flavored snow cone. I used a straw to drink the Suprep. I would take 10 big gulps of suprep and a couple spoonfuls of snow cone. Got the whole prep down in 15 min. It then took me 45 min. to drink the 32. oz of water. Prep worked within 2 hrs. I did walk around the house alot. I ate chicken broth, jello and popsicles and my beloved diet coke.
I was up at 4:30 am for my second dose. Had chilled that bottle in the frig, which does make a difference. This time I had an orange flavored pellegrino water as the chaser. Was only able to get through half the prep and dumped the rest out. Then chewed a piece of gum and drank the water. Prep started working within 30 min.
All in all, it was a piece of cake. Never got sick, had a headache, chills etc. When you read the posts, remember that everyone is different. My experience was sooo easy. And I don't have to repeat the tests for 10 years!!! Good Luck to you all!!!

I used Suprep tonight for the first time. I'd had a colonoscopy several years ago and took pills for the prep, but those pills now come with warnings about kidney damage, so I didn't want to take that risk.
I was very nervous about using Suprep because of my gag reflex. The doctor wasn't any help at all when I expressed my concerns, saying only "I didn't think it was that bad." I was extremely worried about my ability to get this drink down my throat.
Anyway, I read all the posts here and followed a lot of the advice. (Thanks to all who took the time to post their suggestions and experiences.) I refrigerated the bottle and water ahead of time. I used a straw and had a cup of root beer Italian water ice nearby to sip in between. It took me 30 minutes to get it all down and I walked around the entire time, as some people said it helped to reduce the gas buildup.
The drink was clear and the consistency of water, so it was easy to swallow. It tasted weirdly sweet and salty with a bit of a fruit flavor. Not good but not horrible.
When I finished, I drank the first 16 oz. of water right away, since the saltiness of the prep made me thirsty, and I drank the second 16 oz. of water about a half hour later.
I think it helped that I took my time with both the Suprep and the waters. I didn't feel uncomfortably full.
It starting working after 25 minutes. Be aware that the urge to go comes on suddenly and (in my case) often, about every 5 minutes for an hour and a half. Don't be far from the bathroom.
I know everybody has a different experience, but I was pleasantly surprised that the prep didn't taste too bad. It has a weird aftertaste, but if you have something nearby to sip after each swallow, you'll do okay.

I am female. I've had my first purge, and that was not a problem at all. I am still, however, burping up the sucralose. I noticed someone has responded after you -- a man. He says he has problems with the sucralose too - still sick from it 5 days later. Yes, it is a poison. And it shocks me to see that it is in a lot of foods - or at least so-called foods in the fast food industry. Who knows what they put in that stuff. I never had gone to one - and I was talked into stopping at a Taco Bell by my mother after we had been out shopping and had not eaten until 3 p.m. Reluctantly, I agreed, and I ordered what looked innocuous enough - a shell of some sort with supposedly avocado and beans. I could not recognize that thin slime as avocado and beans and even went up and told the cashier she had made a mistake, but not so. Long story short, I got a real workout from it equivalent to the Suprep. My brother in law told me it contained "gut bomb." Anyway, the fast food industry is getting by with putting sucralose in the food, as well as other unsavory and unsettling ingredients.

I used Suprep for a colonoscopy I had five days ago. I am stll having frequent diarrhea and cramping. This was my fourth colonscopy and first time to use Suprep. I have never had these problems in the past. I will request a different prescription with my next colonoscopy. I refuse to use this again.

I'd be interested to know....are you male or female? I only ask that as it's the women who seem to be giving anectodal records of having worse side effect from the Suprep. I concur about the sucralose. It is poison, and some people just can not tolerate it, I , for one.
Hope you feel better fast and that your procedure is easy and uncomplicated. My procedures were a breeze, but the Suprep was a nightmare.
