Suprep Reviews (Page 26) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
Second to last paragraph repeated, with corrections:
"If you're concerned about the colonoscopy you're having, don't be. I had one once before and the only noticeable thing was the initial insertion push, which was no worse than a medium BM. After that I didn't feel a thing & was fascinated watching the implement thread it's way along my colon. (If you're so inclined, ask the Dr. to turn the TV towards you so you can watch.)
The worse thing by far in the whole procedure was the prep. If they could only do without that ...."
My appt. is at 12:30 today. My doctor instructed me to do a clear liquid diet yesterday and do the first prep at 3PM, the second at 7PM. I did GoLytly 10 years ago and I think the Suprep is an improvement. Taste is still awful, but at least you only have to drink 2 16 oz doses.
For the first dose, I mixed it with cold water, then started gulping. About a third of the way through, I started holding my nose and that made a huge difference. I was able to get it all down in about 20 minutes, then the 32 oz. of water in the next hour. My biggest problem was the chills which I was completely unprepared for. I wish I'd thought to look this up online before I started instead of after the first dose LOL! It took about an hour to start working, then an hour to be pretty much done. After reading other people's accounts, for my second dose, I held my nose, took 10 gulps, then a sip of apple juice to clear the aftertaste and again got it all down in 20 minutes. Went to bed at midnight, have had a couple of incidents this morning, but the liquid is clear, so I think I'm good for the procedure. Hopefully I won't have to do this again any time soon.
Taste is bitter, probably due to the sodium benzoate preservative. Can't understand the ridiculous price (~$83). My last colonoscopy was performed after Magnesium Citrate for a few bucks over the counter and it tasted much better.
It sounds like you're saying you used Magnesium Citrate alone before your colonoscopy. I had to take 10oz. of Magnesium Citrate an hour before I started the Suprep.
this product made me sick after second dose severe
head ache , hot flashing with normal body temperature
abdominal pain ,bloating feel like i am going to pass out. it is going on two and a half weeks, the hot flashing is getting better but my right side hurts, maybe
my kidney .stay away from this poison !
Luz - If you're old enough to have Medicare or AARP, one or the other has a Nurses Healthline, where you can call for advice. I believe it's 24-hour service. You might want to give it a try.
This is the worse prep ever! Took the first does at 5pm per orders of the dr. Couldn't hold it all down and vomited part of it up. The taste is unbearable. If rather chug nitequil than take this. It took 4.5 hours for it to work. Still eliminating brown water at almost 3am. I'm suppose to be taking the last dose in an hour. Overall, I'd take the prep that involved the Gatorade in a heartbeat!
Glad to hear that! Do it again in 5 years or whenever your doctor recommends. Better safe than sorry.
Had my Colonoscopy on Monday. Was somewhat anxious about Suprep - but was not a problem. I appreciated all the hints for it. I found it, not terrible in taste, as some said,"grape cough syrup". You do feel a little bloated after it and the water, but tolerable. My best advise is that you take both doses the day before. My kit said "4 pm and 7 pm." The nurse had said 6 pm and 6 am for an 8:30 precedure. I do not advise that. I was still "going" at 6 am from a 9 pm dose. No cramps or problems. Bowels back to normal the next day as I resumed solid foods.
You won't get hemorrhoids from using Suprep. They are caused by straining during defecation. But, if you have them, find a good colo-rectal surgeon, and tell him/her that you would like to get them banded. If they're internal, it's a virtually painless procedure. They put a rubber band around each one, and they eventually dry up and fall off. It's way better than surgery and the success rate is over 60%.
Good luck.
Drink it cold. Mix with Gatorade and it really is not bad. Do not use a straw.
I had my colonoscopy today. The suprep was no fun. I took the first dose yesterday afternoon. I had to do apple juice chasers an sucked on ice cubes.
It made me feel so nauseous. I wasn't sure if I would keep it down. Luckily I did. It worked within 1/2 hour.
Then I had to get up early and take the second this morning. This was much harder. I got it down. I could barely drink any of the 32 oz. that I was supposed to drink afterwards. I threw up everything an hour later.
Luckily they were still able to do it. I had one polyp.
I slept the whole day afterwards.
Suprep really does taste like salty grape cough syrup.
Overall the hardest part of the whole thing was keeping it down and not throwing up.
I had my colonoscopy yesterday. On Monday, I drank the magnesium citrate. Tuesday night I drank the first dose of Suprep and had a hard time drinking the whole thing. Yesterday morning at 6 AM, I drank the second dose of Suprep over a 15 minute time period. After an hour, I threw most of it up. Luckily, I was able to do the colonoscopy and everything turned out fine. In five years, I hope they come up with something better to take. To think that I would rather drink GoLightly, is really saying something about Suprep!
My second 10-year colonoscopy is scheduled for 8am tomorrow morning. I took a 10 oz. bottle of over the counter magnesium citrate at 10 am and have made about 10 trips to the bathroom. My prep instructions have me taking the first dose of Suprep at 5pm (in two hours). All of the posts have been so helpful! I started a low residue diet on Friday and partially fasted yesterday (some cooked potato and 1/2 avocado). I'm chugging down plain coconut water and electrolyte waters all day and feel pretty ok.
I see most folks have the second dose scheduled for 3am - my prep sheet has me taking the second dose at 10pm tonight for the 8am appointment. Not sure why there is such a discrepancy but hopefully all will go well and I'll get a little sleep tonight. Thanks for all of the good information and wish me luck!
Second dose no better, have feeling will need to reschedule......not happy
I'm only 21 years old but was reffered to get a colonoscopy from my physician due to under active bowel movements.. At first I wasn't nervous at all but once I got to the drink I could NOT keep it down. I only vomited once with the first dose but I just took the second dose this morning and I vomited about 3 times. I've only been to the toilet once but it looked very clear. Hoping for the best. I'm very nervous I'm going to have to go through this process all over again!
So taking "shots" of Gatorade very helpful for second dose. I still threw up but held more down this time. But I think having Gatorade nearby and in between nasty gulps of the prep stuff rly helps ease you esp from the aftertaste causing a gag reflex
so what did the doc say about that? was there an underlying problem that this product didn't work for two days on you? did you ever get your exam?
So here I am sitting on the potty with my laptop. Took Bottle 1 of Suprep an hour and a half ago. It started working after 1 hour. I must say, this is truly disgusting -- both the drink and the results. But it is also a life saver: I have a strong family history of colon cancer and my last colo at age 57 picked up extensive pre-cancerous polyps. So the procedure saved my life. I guess you just have to do what you have to do.
In closing: What's the definition of a colonoscope: a hollow tube with an a**hole at both ends!
Survived my first colonoscopy is DONE IN ONE (time that is) and you can do it if I did. Routine, 51 year old female, First Su-Prep 4pm and began in 15 minutes and I kept a tablet—believe me, you better stay on the toilet and sure it works differently for everyone, but man, I went forever for 3 hours. I kept the bottles in the fridge and mixed with cold water and drank the water. The taste was salty grape and very thin. I used a straw and rubbed a mint on my tongue to help. My stomach began to harden and it gurgled and it began. I had a slight headache but no other issues. I read magazines and messaged friends who had similar experience on FB and chatted. I was able to rest. The second prep was 11 pm and I didn’t think that it would be a problem but it was harder getting that second one down but I was determined. I was up another 2 hours but only went 5x. I slept from 2-6am when I awoke. I went again at the dr’s office and my procedure was 9am sharp and I was in recovery at 9:30. Polyp removed no retest for 3 years. I feel fantastic!! I am very proud of myself.
