Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
Obviously you were sick prior to using Suprep if you had diarrhea before drinking it. Glad everything turned out well for you!
I have had 12 colonoscopys for the last 40 years cause of colon cancer in my 30s. I have used various preps and ever had a problem. I ate light 2 days prior and had only an egg, toast and
And cottage cheese the day before. Prep was suprep. I had diarrhea 2 times that day BEFORE starting the prep. Drinking prep was not a problem. Immediately started working and it was clear already. Then got chills and was cold for an hour. Headache, Also lightheaded. Slept well. Took morning dose and in 5 minutes water shot out of my mouth and vomited it all up. Chills again. Felt terrible, very dizzy and headache. Anyway, ended up that i was very dehydrated and at the hospital and they could not get a vein to rehydrate me. After trying 3 places got it in my hand. Almost passed out twice. Colonoscopy went fine. 2 polyps but I slept at home the next 8 hours. This is 4 hours later and I am ready to sleep again! Next time I do a different prep and drink more fluids.
This is my first colonoscopy. I took the first dose at 6 pm last night and again at 4 am this morning. It really wasn't so bad. I found that once I drank the solution it helped to put a Lifesaver Spearmint candy in my mouth to kill the aftertaste. Then I just drank chilled water afterwards which went down fine. The stuff works fairly quickly (within 30 minutes for me). No cramping, no pain, no chills. The only negative thing besides the taste of the solution is that I can't help but think of Johnny Cash's Burning Ring of Fire song because that's what my butt feels like this morning. Thank God we have a bidet because it helped so much to have nice warm water on that tender area!!! Really, the prep is not fun, but it's not so bad either. I look forward to being able to eat again and drinking wine! Well, off to the hospital now. Cheers to healthy colons out there! Nothing to fear with this prep kit.
I took my first dose at 6PM and the other at 7AM. I chilled the solution along with ice water and had no trouble getting down either dose. I had a little bloating and chill from the cold drinks but that was about it. The stuff really does come out at a high rate. I just let the fluid do its thing and didn't try and force anything which helped my hemorrhoids from acting up.
As almost everyone has said, the colonoscopy was much easier than the prep.
I used the Suprep kit just yesterday. I believe the hardest part was drinking down the cup full if clear strange tasting gunk and then 2 more full 16 ounces if water in an hour. First dose was at 4:00pm. First run to the bathroom was in about 13 minutes. Spent most of the rest of the day in & out of there. Kept hydrated drinking Propel water & Gatorade. Only side affect i got was a flash of nausea and sudden freezing shakes. Both passed quite Quickly. Second dose. 2:30 am. I.did the same thing. Just chugged the glass of suprep water mix & drank my 2 more jugs of water. Did get chills & a little nausea. Biggest thing that helped me was for three days before I ate light. Absolutely no beef & hard to digest stuff. Arrived at med center at 7:15 am. Was being wheeled out of there at 10 am. No polyps no problems at all. See you in 10 years. Much much easier than I thought. Just remember to read instructions. No seeds or popcorn no red dyes no tomatoes. If you have worries or concerns I hope I helped ease your mind. It was my first & I'm glad I did it.
That's cause they check for hemmoroids, and they don't miss much! :)
2nd colonoscopy and even with sureprep the second dose is the hardest. 6pm first dose 3am I started the second. Every sip is worse. I tried to chug it but what little that stayed in my stomach caused cramping which is a totally different pain than I am having. Has any one tried the tablets?? I can handle the pain more so than vomitting cause that just intensifys the pain
Today I had a colonoscopy and used Suprep for the first time. I started at 4:30 pm and had the second dose at 9:30 pm. It was really a good experience. The taste was odd, almost like a palatable disinfectant. I got it down with a straw way in the back of my tongue. The quart of cold water went down easily the first time; the second time it took over an hour to get it all down. The first hour after the first dose wasn't bad: a moderate headache, some nausea, bloating and mild cramping. It took over an hour for it to start to work. Unlike some of the other preps, it just gently let you know it was time to head to the toilet. No mad dashes. The second dose went down more slowly: I could feel the cold fluid half way up my chest. Less nausea and no bloating or cramps. By midnight the everything was running clear. Then I went to bed. Advice: drink as much fluids as you can tolerate to prevent dehydration. Gatorade is vile-tasting; but it does replace some of the electrolytes you will lose with the copious diarrhea. I drank as much fluids and jello as I could stand and it made a difference in how I felt before the colonoscopy. After the colonoscopy, be sure to drink plenty of fluids to help you recover from the inevitable dehydration you get anyway. I felt great afterwards. This is a very civilized prep. Only two drinks of actual medicine and free water and other fluids afterwards. Can't beat it.
I used it just last week before my first colonoscopy. So I have nothing to compare it to. However, I've hard bad things about past drinking solutions! It tasted like grape "fizzees" to me (if you remember that 1960's kid's drink). No problem with the taste or getting it down (per the directions). I just used water for mixing; using flavored mixers might lead to a strange taste. The chemicals in the Suprep gave me a kind of uneasy, unwell feeling but no nausea (during the first bottle) or vomiting. I had a tiny bit of nausea following the last of the second bottle, but it was not bad. I did not vomit. It worked great and cleaned me out. The only time I had a comparable experience was after I ate a hamburger in Mexico City once! I will seek it out again
when I get a future colonoscopy. I think the product is OK.
Within 5 minutes it started working. Had a bitter taste so drink it all at 1 time! Had to drink the rest of water in the bathroom. No discomfort just felt bloated for a few minutes. Much better than previous methods given
Took the first dose about 3 hours ago. It started working in less than 30 min. I really had to stay right by the bathroom for a couple of hours. The worst of it is the sore butt! I am using Preparation H for that and now laying down resting. I have to take the next dose in an hour and a half, so may have a rough evening. My colonoscopy is in the morning. I am hoping for a restful night and a clean bill of health in the morning.
Please do NOT use Preparation H - the dr told me it has chemicals than can hinder the procedure! Vasoline or wipes are fine!
Just took first bottle about hour and a half ago....you must only use water to mix the prep. I made sure water was very cold. I used a long straw and pinched my nose. I drank it all down in just over a minute. Don't take sips - you will give up. Within a half hour I was on the "throne"....no cramping or stomach pain but no warning either...it came fast!. I did ask Dr. if I could suck on hard candy and answer was yes....so I had a Root Beer barrel hard candy ready to mask what little taste I had. The salty taste does come through. It was the easiest prep I have ever used.
This is my 3rd colonoscopy.
It is much better than previous versions, but is something that would take getting used to. It does start working quickly, no cramping or bloating of any kind.
I am laughing because as I read your comment and at this very minute, I am all set up in the bathroom with my laptop lololol.
I didn't have diet restrictions for the Suprep other than a liquid diet 24 hours before. I did eat lightly the day before the 24 hour liquid diet. Colonoscopy was fine, no polyps. I did have jello, broth, juice etc. I really think drinking the Suprep is best on a stomach that has something in it. (water, jello, etc.)
I am 55 and this was my first colonoscopy. Again, I thank everyone for the tips. They were a great help!
I used Suprep before my last colonoscopy and was told that the lining of my colon was irritated and indicated that I had either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. I had no symptoms prior to this and have had none since. The nurse informed me that other patients had been surprised by the same diagnosis, after using Suprep. I refused any treatment for these conditions and suspect the colon lining was irritated by the Suprep. I will know more after my next colonoscopy, because I intend to use the Go Lightly prep, as I had no irritation noted in previous colonoscopies. I believe the diet restrictions, for 5 days prior to using the Suprep, are much harder to follow than just using the Go Lightly.
Having first colonoscopy tomorrow. Took first dose of Suprep at 2:00pm. Followed suggestions about chilling the Suprep and using a straw. Was nasty but got it down. Started working in 45 minutes. Ate lightly yesterday but I was going on and off until 6:30. Mostly water. Next dose is at 9:00pm. Using Vaseline but will definitely get preparation H for my husband when he goes for his colonoscopy. My poor hole is sore! Have been hydrating all day so I think that helped me. Time to get ready for second dose. Hope it won't keep me going for 4 1/2 hours! Thanks to all for the great tips!
My first time doing this at 48years old and after chivying half the first dose in 2 gulps istarted having trouble with the extreme saltiness of the stuff then vomited a bit and finally finished it. Drank 16oz water and 16 yellow gaterade after but the saltiness of the gatorade was killing me. This prompted me to go online and read peoples comments. I laughed at the colini cocktai video then surmised that mint and gingerale and a straw is what I would try for the 230am round. I put a bit of mouthwash on my tongue and spit then sucked down half with straw gargeled with gingerale to get salty taste out and repeated twice had just about an 8th left tried again then vomited a bit again and didn't quite finish the last bit but close enough. As far as the pooping no cramps just gurgles coming out like water took about half hour to kick in both times. I ate light day before doing liquids and hello. Gotta go!
The best thing I can say about Suprep is that it works. Everything else about it is bloody awful. The taste was clawingly sweet/salty. I started my first dose at 4:00 pm as per instructions. I spent more time in the bathroom with this prep than I did for the the other two colonoscopy"s I've had. I can't remember the other two preps but they weren't as bad as Suprep. Besides the taste, I found it hard to get through the two 16oz bottles of water in an hour. Then the dread about the second dose kept me tossing and turning trying to get some sleep before the 2:30 am!! repeat. The second round was harder to get down than the first and started working almost immediately. Needless to say, no more sleep until the actual colonoscopy this morning at 8:00am. The BEST ADVICE I can give anyone no matter what kind of prep they use is to start the liquid diet two days before the procedure instead of the directed one day before. And even before that, eat a soft diet the day before the two day fast. I'm convinced that helps all preps work completely. My Dr. told me for the next one, we'll discuss using something else.
