Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
Let me start by saying drinking the Suprep was the WORST part. It tastes so bad!!! I got my first dose down but when I had to take my second dose at 2 am, it was a struggle. I started gagging and just could not finish it (probably left 2-3 oz). I would have thrown it up if I did anymore. I had no side effects -- no nausea, headache. I did experience some chills right after taking it which subsided quickly. It does clean you out quickly. After going several times after I took it, it stopped. Almost immediately after the second dose, everything was clear -- like water. I drink a lot of water so drinking 32 oz of water within an hour after taking the med was not hard for me. The actual drinking of the Suprep was by far the worst part of the day!!! I do not want to ever drink it again!!
This has been the worst ten hours of bowel prep ever!!!...and I haven't even ingested the second dose.I began last night at 8pm with 10 ounces of mag citrate followed by one full 12 oz glass of h2o and then of course the even worse tasting SuPrep along with all prescribed h2o..For the first two hours I tolerated without any signs of n/v or cramping...and then suddenly I broke out into a cold sweat with chills, and the most unbearable pain and cramping.Honestly I contemplated the emergency department as this pain was comparable to any flare up I have ever had. After two hours of that I have been in the bathroom passing what seems like gallons of dark water. My second dose begins at 830am this morning with both scopes at 3pm. Yesterday I ate a very lite bfast consisting of toast and tea and then as much hydration as I could tolerate. This was difficult as I have had nausea with vomiting for nearly a 6 weeks straight managed temporarily with Zofran. I did have a cat scan with contrast that was normal which is why my new G.I. doc went this route. I have never used SuPrep in the past and it seems that however bad tasting the last 5 scopes have been wether in patient or same day surgery I have never experienced such pain,n/v and overall feeling.I am Leary about the second dose...not just for an unpleasant taste but because of the side effects I have been battling.
I am 66 years old and had my first colonoscopy today. My doctor gave me the Suprep kit since he said it was so expensive. He told me to drink clear liquids the day before the procedure but I drank large amts of fluids, two days before the clear liquids ate only one small meal with low residual foods. First dose 6pm Suprep is awful tasting but if you drink it quickly, you can get it down, drank remaining water a little more slowly. I breathed slowly through my nose and walked around. First bowel movement in 20 minutes, never got up and continued with pure liquid pouring for one hour, then I was perfectly clear-no more movements-slight cramping for only several minutes. No nausea or chills but I was very cold . Second dose @5am pretty much the same as first dose-worked after 15 min, one hour and perfectly clear. Procedure 11am-physician said it was an excellent prep-3 small polyps but doctor stated he had no doubt they were not cancerous. Hardest part of the whole thing were those liquids, but I am sure because I ate almost no solid food for 3 days before I started that is why I had such an easy time, also before taking the Suprep I applied a mixture of hemorroidal oint with cortisone cream to my anus, no soreness or irritation, and used baby wipes.
I stayed hydrated through the whole process. Yes you can still drink without GOING.
Prep was horrible! But way better than that milk gallon stuff.
30 min ago I finished the 1st bottle. Dr said to take at 1 pm.
She also said to do laundry or other things around the house; stay busy. And walk all over the house.
Supposed to do second prep tomorrow at 6 am for 9 am colonoscopy (and endoscopy), but I'm thinking that 4 am would be better do I don't stress. And there will be enough time to be empty.
Am confused tho, after drinking the 32 ounces of water, do I have to wait till I GO before drinking any more liquid ?
Tomato products are no no's
can i take the suprep and drink peach flavored crystal light with it? can i drink the crystal light for all the additional fluid i need to take with the suprep?
The instructions with Suprep clearly state DO NOT take any other laxative with Suprep. The poster saying they took Miralax with Suprep is giving faulty and possibly dangerous information.
Used it for the first time at 6PM today. It is horrible tasting and I barely got the first dose down without vomiting. It is now 10 PM and it still has not taken effect so had to take some Mirilax. So far only nausea, vomiting and cramps. My doctor will have to reschedule if this stuff doesnt take effect soon. What a waste of $$$$. Dont use it if you can get something else
In my case the Suprep was the least unpleasant part of my first colonoscopy. Both the fasting and the procedure itself were worse, though tolerable. For both Suprep doses I was so hungry the Suprep actually tasted kind of good. I’d gone low-fiber two days pre-procedure, and then only had yogurt for breakfast one day before. As many others have reported, bathroom action occurred about an hour after the first Suprep dose, and less than 30 minutes after the second. With few solids left in me it was more like peeing out of the wrong orifice: a weird sensation, but I had no discomfort issues with the prep. One odd thing with both doses is that I thought I was done after two hours, only to another episode of fluid release five to six hours post-dose. I opted to have the colonoscopy without sedation, and will in the future, but it’s clearly not for everyone. Various bloggers have said the pain isn’t much, and I’d agree that on average it’s not bad. But I did have a couple brief pain spikes during the end of ingress. There’s also the disquieting sensation of a foreign object moving about one’s insides, but I found that could be ignored by focusing on the monitor. Sadly three polyps were found and removed, so I must repeat in three years.
idk what to use my doctor gave me a super bowel kit but when he sent me paper work he it says take trilyte to i have to drink both? im confused and my doc closed
Just drank the lovely Suprep, OMG, what sadistic person made this swill? AWFUL taste!! Took me half a bottle of Sierra Mist on the side to get it down. THEN I must have sneezed 10 times after the last swallow. 10 years ago it was Fleet mixed with soda or Gatorade and that was at least tolerable. Might be my tastebuds but this stuff is wretched!! BLECH!! Now guts are growling and have some gas but no results yet.
Just did the SuPrep...tastes like salty cough medicine, BUT, the gross taste does go away with a chaser...I used white cranberry juice which worked great! Suggestion is to use a cup with a lid and straw, and just guzzle it all at once if you can, and immediately follow it with a flavored drink of choice. Worse part of it all is the aftertaste, and having to get up during the night to do the 2nd part! As long as you stay "clear", don't worry about finishing that 2nd dose! I didnt and was clean.
I'd also suggest staying with light, easily digestible foods the day before the prep, and try to make sure to have a good movement that day prior...less cramping and less to expel on prep day. Prep day I had a light breakfast of rice krispies, banana and a tiny bit of almond milk before 10 am, then yellow and green jellos and gummy bears (which melt away) and gingerale and white cranberry juice for the sugar to keep from getting the shakes. It truly isnt as bad as everyone says!...good luck to you!
Face it - nobody looks forward to bowel prep/bowel blow procedures.... After six colonoscopies - I can assuredly say medicine has FINALLY got one right. While not Happy Hour cocktail, the SUPREP was by far the best of the worst (so it were). The mix is a mere 6 oz - mixed with another 10 or so ounces - followed by 32 oz of water within the hour (must do this regimen TWICE). The taste is not as foul as people below describe - its sort of like drinking watered down cough syrup. Follow the tips of others and make sure the water you mix it with is EXTREMELY cold..... Further, I used TWO straws and placed them as far back in my throat as possible and did the "one two three" - downing it in one constant period. The corresponding 32 oz of water you must drink added to the 16 oz SUPREP concoction will definitely make you full and feel bloated. Others report near immediate impact. The first round took about three hours to work and gave me about three or four trips to the commode. The second round went much quicker - acting within an hour of taking the prep. and sent me to the commode several times. Disposable cottenelle wet wipes are a must! Again, I wouldn't order this at a restaurant - but it was by far the better tasting and more tolerable bowel preps I've ever done. Good luck with your bowel blow experience! STRAWS AND ICE WATER! They are your keys to the kingdom....
I am not sure I understand the mixing... Is it correct that you have to mix the 6 oz. dose of Suprep with 10 oz. of water, drink that, and then drink two more 16 oz. glasses of water? Or instead of those two glasses, is it okay to drink something else like Sprite or lemon Gatorade?
Or, can you use those as the 10 oz. to mix with the 6 oz. Suprep?
I am determined to get it all down, no matter what. I need this to work.
Sounds like you had an allergic reaction. The only discomfort I've found was the taste.
i just drank my first dose a few minutes ago it was awful tasting ive had one other that tasted worse but its right up there with that one....thank god only have to do this every 5 yrs.. 2 am its gonna taste even worse im sure..Bleck eck
You all scared the living day lights out of me but it was fine....just completed the first bottle; salty was worse than taste; took someone else's advice of a sweet chaser (white cranberry) and it helped as did plain water with it as well. No nausea etc. I have been on clear liquids (as per dr) for 2-3 days prior so not expecting any issues.
I am using the prep right now. Has a grape flavor, which I don't care for. So I tried to drink it as fast as I could. Starting working after 20 minutes.
