Suprep Reviews (Page 14) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
I knew nothing about low fiber diet until this morning, when I read this forum. Tomorrow morning is the appointment. Yesterday,I had a particularly high fiber day with oatmeal, nuts, seeds, apples, blueberries, and brown rice. So I had two cups of "Get Regular" Yogi Tea this morning and got a good head start on cleansing. Just took the first Suprep dose and surprisingly clear. I still worry about those nuts tucked away in there, though.
Follow up to posts 289 and 290....colonoscopy was a piece of cake thanks to Versed...put me right out. One tiny polyp removed. Hope I don't have to do this again in 5 years!
OMG This was the worst tasting stuff I have ever had!!! It's been an hour and I'm still trying to get it down. I am only half way there. The taste is so foul! I even tried numbing my tongue with orajel so I wouldn't taste it and I think it helped a little but not much. I managed to get some down simply by holding my nose and chugging it. I drank a few sips of apple juice after which helped get rid of the nasty taste a little. I'm getting ready to chug the rest and have some chicken broth handy to try to take after which someone else recommended. Ugh! I hope I can get through this!!!! And to think I have to get up at 4 and do it all again! UGH!!! :<
So far as chills are concerned, I'm troubled by cold feet. I made sure I had a heating pad or hot water bottle handy, which made all the difference. If you're more bothered by a cold head or ears, try a stocking hat. Maybe have some warm blankets and socks nearby. I know you'd love to soak in a piping hot tub, but under the circumstances, don't. Really, really don't. :-)
There is something called movi prep that requires a larger quantity of liquid to mix with powder and it is gross. It has no sweetener or flavor added so it does taste like thick salt water with a dash of chemical
Just drank the stuff and the taste was not nearly as bad as i expected. I'm not at all concerned drinking the second bottle in four hours. At least not concerned about the taste that is.
Thank you for all of the info. I just drank my first bottle with cold water. I must admit the horror stories had worried me a bit. It isn't that bad. Yes, a water chaser did help. The best advice though was the lemon to get the taste off of your tongue. With the lemon, I'd classify the drinking part as no big deal. Now, I saying that before the first toilet dash, but I can deal with that.
6 hours seems excessive. If nothing's happened by now, I'd check with an advice nurse or an all-night pharmacy.
Chills: A warm blanket, stocking cap, heating pad or hot water bottle, or soak your feet in hot water. Maybe your hands as well.
The taste wasn't as bad as I expected but, because I read many of the previous posts, I used a straw and held my nose as I sucked it down. I did taste what I perceived to be a slightly grape flavor and there was an aftertaste, which I chased away with a few sips of 7-up. Since my procedure was scheduled at 3:45 p.m., I took my first dosage at 8 p.m. after having my last meal (light breakfast) before 8 a.m. I followed my doctor's instructions completely, taking in eight ounces of fluid every two hours starting at noon. (I did drink plenty of cola and some chicken broth from noon through 7 p.m. due to hunger.) In my case, it took 1 1/2 hours before my first bowel movement, although bowel "gurgling" starting after the first 1/2 hour. After starting to go, I went and went. After about an hour of going, what I produced was more liquid. I took the second dose at midnight. Also, I drank a few ounces of 7-up afterward, again to get rid of the taste as well as 16+ ounces of water an hour later, as instructed. The second dose caused strong stomach cramps which were uncomfortable but not intolerable. I also developed a very slight headache. (I never felt the chills others have described.) The second dose caused me to gush liquids for at least three hours. I was able to get to sleep around 4 a.m. though I did get up to "go" three or four times to eliminate liquid from the rectum. The liquid became clearer and clearer but still cloudy, telling me that the Suprep worked. By 8 a.m. the next day, my bowels seemed to calm down. All in all, I'd say this, my second colonoscopy, wasn't too bad in part because of the Suprep. The amount of liquid was something I was able to handle with a bit of effort. (My memory of the first was that I had a hard time with the white liquid and the amount that had to be consumed.) I pray that the polyps found are clear and that I will not have to undergo this procedure again for the three to five weeks mentioned by the medical staff when I woke up. Good luck to all of you who have to endure this procedure and thanks so much to those who commented in the past. Your suggestions and comments help me greatly!
You did a good prep, Mailee. In my opinion, the reason people get the chills is because they chill the Suprep. My methodology is to mix it with tap water. No chills. You may (or may not) get a slight headache as you mentioned, but nobody said prepping is supposed to be fun. Sure beats the alternative! Hope your procedure found you clear.
Suprep tasted fine to me, the volume of water spread out over an hour didn't cause any discomfort. I really had no problem with any of it. I plan to buy the product again in 10 years.
Next time have a banana popsicle and after slurping with the straw (I use two), take a bite of the banana popsicle. I had no aftertaste of the Suprep.
My first colonoscopy is tomorrow. using suprep right new...appreciated tips...wasn't as bad as i thought and having it cold helped!! Already working after 45 minutes...all this fear was unfounded about the prep!
Dog Lady - I know it's probably too late for you, since you wrote some 11 hours ago, but I suggest you try a druggist. They know a whole lot about thing like this. And some pharmacies are open 24 hours.
That sounds aweful, but I have had quite the poopsite reaction. No pain, no cramping, no discomfort at all. It tasted absolutely terrible but it worked quote well.. so far.
After five colonoscopies, I think Suprep is by far the easiest one I have ever used. I am sorry you had problems. I will beg for it every time!
Very easy to use. Chill it in the fridge for at least three hours. Mix with Gatorade or something tasty. It works with very few miserable side effects.
I wish I would have seen some of the hints to drinking this before I tried. Following listed directions I thought "no problem, it's nasty, I can chug it down" I drank about 1/4 of the mixed cup and almost threw up, then held my nose and drank down to about a half and did throw up, right back into the remaining cup in the sink.
Don't know what to do about my appointment tomorrow, no way in hell I can drink anymore, maybe if I chilled it, added a flavor pack of something and used a straw to get it past my taste buds as suggested it might have worked. I have sensitive taste buds, can't drink most diet sodas and thought Diet Dr. Pepper was the most vile thing I ever tried to drink until this. How my mom and some friends managed this I'll never know?
I recently had a colonoscopy and asked the pharmacist which was easiest. He told me Trilyte, which was a snap. I hated the flavorings and just chugged each 8 oz glass, then ate a sugar cube. It was very easy. Hope that helps you make a decision. My gastro said it was very effective.
1st time using suprep. 2nd colonoscopy. Suprep much better than the miralax. Tasted like very salty watered down berry cough syrup. I drank it at room temperature, slow and steady, with tiny sips of flat ginger ale in between. Results in 1/2 hour! Stayed in bathroom for an hour. Use Vaseline on bottom..before, during and after! Worked great. Harder to get the 2nd dose down but by standing up and drinking slow & steady &at room temperature I kept it all down & results again within 1/2 hour. Flat ginger ale really helped me a lot. I also had a very light diet for3 days before starting the prep.
