Sulfur In Sulfa-based Antibiotics?
Updated2 Replies
Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is a generic for the antibiotic Bactrim, which is used to treat various types of infections.
And in regards to this question, there really isn't sulfur in it, per se… what it really means is that this is a sulfa based drug, or it's derived from it... and the amount of sulfa based material in it is equivalent to the amount of Sulfamethoxazole that's in it.
Learn more Bactrim details here.
To put it a little more simply for future readers, if you have a sensitivity to sulfa or are allergic to it, then you should not take this antibiotic as there is a very high likelihood that you will also have a bad reaction to it.
