Sulfamethoxazole Tmp While 28 Weeks Pregnant

My obgyn has prescribed me sulfamethoxazole for a uti and im 28 weeks pregnant. He said it was a class c ... Meaning he said its a greater risk not to take it than to takeit....im kinda nervous about it but i know im in great hands. Has anyone else took this while pregnant????

That's not actually what they category means. Pregnancy category C means that it isn't known whether or not there is any risk to the baby, because studies haven't been done and they haven't been able to gather enough real world information on it.

Yes, not treating an infection would be a greater risk, but there are other antibiotic choices that are considered safe for use during pregnancy.
