My Dr gave me Sulfamethoxazole DS by accident when I am 6 weeks pregnant. What has it done to my Baby girl? Do I worry until she is born?

I have a UTI but scared to take medication while pregnant (17 weeks). It says do not take sulfamethoxazole.
I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and my Obgyn prescribed Sulfamethoxazole TMP DS because they found bacteria in my urine. I'm just worried that its not safe to take and could potentially harm my baby! My Pharmacist was totally against me taking it, But my Obgyn said it was fine since my baby is fully formed & wouldn't change the prescription. So I don't know who to believe. Please help.
my doctor called me today I started positive for bacteria and describe the genetic brand of bactrim. and spotted on April 20 and have not had a cycle since February 4 I am having a ultrasound next Tuesday to see if i am pregnant cause I am getting negative test. is this medicine safe during early pregnancy
Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, commonly prescribed under the brand name Bactrim and while it has been shown to carry some risk, when used during pregnancy, no controlled studies have been done to definitively prove exactly what those risks are.
And yes, unfortunately, until the baby is born, there is really no way to know if any harm has been done.

On thing you may want to do, however, is talk to your doctor to make sure you are taking a Folic Acid supplement. May pregnant women do not get enough in their diets and a lack of it has been known to cause birth defects. On top of that, the antibiotic has been known to prevent it from being absorbed in the body, further reducing the amounts and possibly contributing to these birth defects.

The good news, however, that the worst evidence of problems possibly caused by using this antibiotic during pregnancy were shown to mostly occur when someone used it during late pregnancy, not as early as you did.
Have you spoken to your doctor about your concerns?
