Sulfamethox Tmp Sus

My two month old was proscribed this medicine. I feel she is sleeping way to much even for a two month old. Has anyone else had this problem?

According to the dosing & administration guidelines, this medication is contraindicated in infants less than 2 months of age. Since your child is borderline on this age requirement, I'd question why the doctor decided to choose this drug over less riskier options?

In my honest opinion, Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is a very powerful drug to be giving a 2 month old, who's immune system is still developing. The number of potentially severe side effects is what really draws a lot of people away from this particular antibiotic. So if you believe your child is sleeping abnormally more than usual, it may be worth while to contact your child's doctor about this concern before it manifests into something more complicated.
