I am having urinary tract infection and was given sulfameth/trimeth ds by my doctor. For the past 5 days I've been taking the same but I feel the more my pain is getting worst rather than feel some easing off. There are just 3 more tablets left and I am done with that 7day antibiotic period. Do you think I still have to wait until I finished everything before the result kicks in? Or do I need to request for a more extensive examination?

SEVEN DAYS for a UTI in a male. Bactrim-DS is an excellent drugs for UTIs. Anything beyond a simple URI, for which we write for 14 days' tx, but more usually we write for 3-d minimum. Your doctor (if indeed he/she IS a real MD) is a total moron!

If you have a UTI which has not started to improve after taking an antibiotic for a full 3 days, then you should consult your doctor, as it might not be the right antibiotic for you to take.
The FDA warns that antibiotics may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
