Sulfameth Trimethoprim 800 160 And Rashes

I have a staph skin infection, rashes all over my body and I went to see my doctor, she prescribed me sulfameth trimethoprim 800/160mg. I have been taking this antibiotic for four days now and the rashes seem to pronounce a bit more. So my question is, does the rash get more pronounced while one is taking it on your skin before it starts healing and disappearing?

Hello, Richard! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having.

The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and it can actually cause a non-allergic skin rash as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea.

It would be best to have your doctor check things out, but it's most likely just a side effect of this antibiotic.

I had been prescribed Sulfameth Trymethoprim by a minor emergency center doctor for a bad infection, 2/day for 10 days, and on the 8th day, I noticed small redish whelps (100's of them) appear over my back, stomach, and upper legs. I went ahead and finished the 10 days (2 days ago), but the whelps have not subsided, I have an appointment with my primary care Doctor in 31 hours, but is this maybe serious enough to go to a hospital ER sooner! The whelps are itchy, but I am trying not to scratch. Help!
