Sulfameth Trimeth- Cf Related

My 2 children who have Cystic Fibrosis were put on sulfameth-trimeth for 21 days at 18.5 ml twice daily, they both weigh around 30-33 lbs! Why would they be put on such a high dose for so long ?

According to nih.gov, "People with cystic fibrosis may take antibiotics only when needed, or all the time. Doses are usually higher than normal."

Although this is just my theory, it could be that their doctor also felt that the severity of the condition alarmed him enough to increase the duration of that dose. But ultimately you'd have to ask the doctor who prescribed it for a more valid answer.
