My elderly mother is taking this drug and is sleeping , almost non responsive. Could the medication be causing this?

Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat different types of infections.
Drowsiness can be a side effect, however, if she is being treated for an infection, it could also be caused from her being ill.
Is she on any other medications, as well?
I suggest calling her doctor to get to the root of the problem. Over the Internet, I can only guess at what might be causing the problem.
