Sulfa Based Antibiotics And Shortness Of Breath

Updated January 4, 2022

I am recovering from a severe case of pneumona. I was given Levofloxacin and following a recurrence I was given a steroid. Two weeks ago the Pulmonologist said my lungs were clear (x-ray). However I am still short of breath and have some discomfort in my chest. Is this just part of the recovery process?

Are you aware of whether or not you have an allergy to sulfa?

Only asking because there are a number of sulfa related allergy symptoms, which may explain what you're experiencing...

"Lung reactions: Sulfa allergy can affect the lung, with pneumonia-like reactions, worsening asthma and vasculitis occurring."

Referenced from: allergies.about.com/od/medicationallergies/a/sulfa.htm

I hope this info helps!
