Suicidal Thoughts On Fluoxetine
(Newest replies first)

Alright so hello guys, I’m having a very scary problem. I’ve been taking fluoxetine (Prozac) for about 5 weeks. Things have been great the past few weeks, I was feeling really good! Before the medication I was having tons of suicidal thoughts but now for the past few days those thoughts have come back and even more scary, I feel motivated to actually act on them. Only thing keeping me going is I do still have hope and I know it will hurt my family. So have any of you had this problem? Should I keep taking the medication? Will I feel better again? I felt like this medication was working really well but now I feel lost again. I’m hoping this is just a bump and things will start progressing again.

SSRI's are pure garbage in my opinion. They seem to cause more side effects than anything. In most cases i've read about people getting a "plateau" effect on them IF they even worked at all. Thus meaning they may feel better for a short period of a couple weeks and then the drug no longer works.
I've tried Prozac, Celexa, and Lexapro and none of them really seemed to do anything but kill my libido and make my brain feel "numb". Typically if one SSRI doesn't work for you, none of them will. They all have the same mechanism of action on the brain.
It is important to note that when it comes to suicidal thoughts on Prozac, it is younger people that are more commonly affected, according to "clinical" studies. So, Abbey, your age could also have something to do with it. Best of luck to you, if you're still reading this, 4 months after posting it.....
In most cases, it is best to consult your doctor, and try a different medication. Any given medication doesn't work well for everyone that tries it.
I took Zoloft/Sertraline for years, but when I tried it, again, it caused the same type of problem for me. The FDA does warn about such issues, other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight loss.
What dosage are you taking? Are you on any other medications?
