Sudden Reaction To Methatrexate

My 5 year old son is on 15mg Subcut Methatrexate injection , weekly. He has been on this drug for almost 2 1/2 years now. He also receives an infusion every 4 weeks - both are for his illness Juvenile Dermatomyositis, which he was diagnoised with when he was 18 months old.
Up until now, he has tolorated both drugs very well - with almost no side effects. Just lately though, he has started to be very sick after the Methatrexate. 4/5 hours later he developes a high temtreture and is sometimes very sick.
I am not able to understand (and nether can his consultants) why he suddenly, after 2 1/2 years has he started to develop this reaction.
I would be more understanding, had my son reacted like this from day one but he hasn't showed any signs iof side affects to the methatrexate. Why now, when absolutely nothing has changed.
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else on the drug ?

Hello, Daniella! How is he doing?

There's really no explanation for it, it just happens sometimes. Someone can take a medication for 10 years, or more and then suddenly develop an allergy to it or have a bad reaction.

Our bodies change with time and for a young child, those changes occur much more often than they will for an adult.

Has his doctor suggested any solution to the problem? Perhaps some medication given before the injection as a preventative an be used.
