I am 28 yrs old with tubal ligation since july 2016. My periods have come very light tecnically spottin on and off. I also had symptoms of pregnancy but U/A's were negative. So I went to my gynocoligist at the end of august and he did a pap smear and a finger check and told me i wasnt ovulating. He prescribed me provera. I still havent taken it cuz im nervous i have a ectopic pregnancy or am actually prego. My periods have always been normal and regular. Please any info would be great.

There is no way he could tell from a pap smear and finger check. That requires blood work, to check your hormone levels at various times through the month. You can read various articles on the NIH website about it.

Generally, not ovulating actually causes heavier periods, because it means you're producing more estrogen, and not enough progesterone, according to NIH studies.

That said, Provera may help, since it is a synthetic form of Progesterone. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms.

But, it might be a good idea to see another doctor for a second opinion.

Is there anything else I can help with?
