Success Tapering Off Subutex While Pregnant
UpdatedHello,
I am currently 32 weeks pregnant, I am prescribed 10 mg Subutex a day, but really only take an average of 4 mg a day, sometimes less.
I really had my mind set on coming off completely before I deliver and my doctor is 100% ok with me doing that if I feel comfortable doing it myself.
I'm looking for success stories. So if you tapered off while pregnant please, your reassurance would mean so much to me. I have trouble sleeping because my guilt eats me alive
Please let me know there is hope and that coming off subutex completely before delievering my baby girl is possible!
Thank you!

Hey i see there's no replies yet but i wanted to offer some words, not sure if ill help much. My daughter is 15 months. I got pregnant unexpectedly so i had not gotten off subutex 8mg a day. My dr actually discouraged me tapering off and also didn't prepare me for her withdrawals once she was born. Ok, so my Dr tells me its very hard to get completely off. Hes told me of patients that take 1 mg every other day and thats as far as they can go before extreme cravings. A friend of mine took 8mg per day and she got completely off 2-3 months before baby was born. I think your doing a great job getting down to 4mg. If u cannot get completely off, remind yourself that you are taking care of yourself. You take subs to treat your addiction. My drs and everyone understood that once i had that even though my daughter and i had to live in the hospital for 1 month to monitor her. She had to be tapered off with baby doses of methadone. After we got to go home and i was trusted to give her the remaining doses, by the time she was 2 months old and completely off everything, she was totally healthy and perfect. The hard truth of the matter is that there will some withdrawal symptoms in your baby if you remain on it. But i can already tell you that by the way ypur going and down to half what i was on, it wont be half as bad. Every child is different. Yes the guilt breaks my heart. But i know i love my Stella with my entire heart and that love has made her into a smiling, laughing, talkative and rambunctious toddler.
Keep lowering your dose how u feel comfortable but honestly if it could risk you and your baby to get off subutex, stay on it and your health team will take amazing supportive care of you and your baby. These nurses also deal with full blown addicts who take opiates up until the baby pops out and see the pain the baby goes through. Subutex is a lot less than that and there will be no long term side effects once shes completely weaned off. The drs and nurses will also not judge u for treating your addiction. I'm not sure if this will help you, but im still taking my 1 8mg sub a day and i work full time and raise my beautiful Stella. She will never remember the short hard time she had the month after she was born, but she feels safe and loved by me because i treat my addiction. Taper as much as you feel comfortable and im sure the withdrawal will already be less than my daughters bc your on half my dose at this point. But if u don't wana taper anymore, remind yourself your treating your illness and the drs will respect you and support you for that. You both will be fine :)
