Substitute Pain Relief Other Than 15 Mg Meloxicam. (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking 15 mg of meloxicam for 3 weeks following surgery on my foot for joint pain and inflammation. It has been causing increasing stomach pain so today I decided not to continue with it. My intention was to not limit my mobility during therapy and my recovery period which could take several months to a year. What else could I take without the gastric upset?

Hello, Fran! How are you? Did you try using an antacid and making sure not to take it on an empty stomach? These measures can usually help limit the gastric upset.
Alternatively, you could speak to your doctor about trying something else, such as Tramadol, or Oxycodone, since they aren't as harsh on your stomach.
The FDA warns, however, that they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
Thanks for replying. I did take the medication with breakfast, but the stomach ache and diarreah were too much to tolerate. One other comment. My stomach did not stop hurting for a week after discontinuing! I cannot take Tramadol; I took it alternately with oxycodone in the first days after my surgery, but had to stop because of extreme itching. I also at this point won't continue to take a narcotic. I did take oxy for an additional few days when I started therapy, but it did not seem to make a difference. I think I may have turned a corner, reaching 10 weeks post surgery and the pain I was experiencing has lessened enough that I can go without any pain meds.
