Hello, Graham! How are you?
How long have you been using any type of opiate pain relief, such as this?
If you've been taking opiates for a long period of time, then you'll likely need to taper very slowly to minimize the possible withdrawal symptoms and rebound effects, as directed by the FDA.
However, if this is the first one you've tried and you've not been on it for that long, you won't need such a long, gradual taper.
The FDA lists this as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
What has your doctor advised?
I am currently on the Butrans 15 mcg patch & having allergic reactions. The dr prescribed a foam to put on skin 1st but still itches & when I take patch off there is a big square rash. What do I do?
Hello, Ewok! How are you?
It sounds like you're allergic to an element in the patch, either the glue or perhaps Latex, if they use it in the patch, I tried looking, but can't find anything on whether it uses latex, nor not.
However, what you've described does sound like what my fiancé and I experience from latex.
There are other forms of Buprenorphine that you can try, such as the oral form, so you may want to return to your doctor to discuss this issue with them.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
I have been using some pain medication since 1968 when I was hurt in the Army. The VA prescribed several years of oxy, vico, etc. Then they decided Chronic pain did not exist and treated me like a street addict. I stopped going to the VA and saw private practitioners - again, oxy, vico, etc. Following hip replacement and a heavy addiction to oxycon my physician place me on Butrans. It nearly killed me .. I gained weight, had swollen legs, feet, irregular heartbeat, UR infections, urinary problems (couldn't pee), ED problems, and breathing problems, muscle aches and joint pain. Just to name a few. Last week I ripped the patch off because I was having severe site pain and will never put it on again. GET OFF BUTRANS BEFORE IT KILLS YOU. Withdrawal isn't that bad. It beats death!
