How did this drug, with its horrible side effects and minimal efficacy (6 weeks survival vs placebo), ever get approved? How is its efficacy determined? What are the oncologist's responsibilities for managing side effects?

@Rocky,

With all the side effects, deaths, and money spent on the war against drugs, I have to wonder how almost every medication on the market has ever been approved.

Regarding your last question, I think the link below may help shed some light on the roles and responsibilities associated with each type of Oncologist:
cancer.net/all-about-cancer/newly-diagnosed/find-oncologist/types-oncologists

However, I get the sense that their responsibility in managing each patient's side effects would just entail changing medications or dosages to better suit individual needs.

Have you considered trying any natural alternatives to this medication? I hear of many individuals getting rid of various types of cancer simply through diet and exercise. Namely just eating or juicing fresh raw fruits and vegetables at every meal and getting your body moving each and every day; this seems to be the most sought after and rewarding approach on so many different levels.

In any case, you may want to do some additional research on that, and maybe consider it as an adjunct therapy to what you're taking now?
