Started Bc A Week Before My Period Was Due!

I have never taken BC (Sprintec) before. And I started my first pack a week before my period was supposed to come. And now it is a week into my first pack and I have gotten my period, and I am still taking the active pills. - This is the time of month I would have normally gotten my period if i wouldn't have started BC a week ago. But it concerns me because I have my period while taking the ACTIVE pills. Is this normal? And will it correct itself, so I get my period when I take the inactive pills in the future?

Hello, Drew! How are you?

It is normal to have irregular bleeding for the first 3 months, while your body is getting used to the hormones in the oral contraceptives. Eventually, things should balance out and you'll get your period only during the week of the inactive pills, if you have one at all, since some women don't on this one.

The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms.

If it continues past 3 months, or if the bleeding gets very heavy, then you should consult your doctor as you may need to try a different OC.
