Sski Tablets For Radiation Treatment

Hi there, I am an Industrial Radiographer by trade! Using Ir192 isotopes, can I use sski tablets for treatment of radiation received during work? What are the benefits of taking sski regularly?

Based on my research, SSKI (Potassium Iodide Oral Solution, USP) is a saturated solution of potassium iodide containing 1 gram of potassium iodide per ml.

Although I've also read about Potassium Iodide used for radiation treatment/prevention, this particular medication is indicated for use as an 'expectorant' in the symptomatic treatment of chronic pulmonary diseases where tenacious mucus complicates the problem, including bronchial asthma, bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema.

The prescribing information states that "it may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor." So I would suggest bringing up the topic of radiation with your doctor if that's going to be your primary reason for it's use.

I was able to find numerous articles of information on the benefits of supplementing Sski under the following google search "benefits of potassium iodide".
