Can I skip my period and take the placebo pills one week later? As in when I'm supposed to take the placebo pills I take the next months hormonal pills then after one week I take the placebo pills then continue on the hormonal. ## Hello, Nicole! How are you? Yes, many women do that to control when they will get their periods, because sometimes they may be due to arrive at a very inconvenient time, such as during a long awaited vacation. Please check with your doctor first, but as long as they clear it, then there shouldn't be any problems with it. Is there anything else I can help with?

i started sprintec on the first day of my period. how long do i have to take it before i can start having unprotected sex? ## If you start oral birth control tablets on the first day of your menstrual cycle, they are effective immediately, because they will prevent your next period of ovulation. However, if you start them at any other time in your cycle, you will have to use another form of protection for the first 7 days. Please keep in mind that oral contraceptives do not prevent STDS, such as HIV, or herpes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## iM ON SPRINTEC BC AN I WAS WONDERING IF YOUR ARE TAKING THEM EVERDAY LIKE YU ARE SUPPOSE TO CAN YU GET PREGNANT ## My doctor told me to start taking Sprintec BC on the first day of my period and I'm now spotting and I wanted to know ...

I have been taking Sprintec for about 5 years and I have never had this happen until now. On the second Monday of my pack, I completely forgot to take my pill, I discovered this on that Tuesday when I already found out that I was late for Tuesday too. So I took both pills for Monday and Tuesday, both were late. On an unwise decision, I had intercourse on Wednesday afternoon, and on Thursday morning I saw blood on my underwear. I immediately panicked thinking it was "spotting" that occurs when one is pregnant. I tried calling my OB's office asking about what I should do and if I should take a pregnancy test and the nurse said that it was too soon to be able to tell if I were. So I continued to take my pills normally in the mean time. A week of waiting on "spotting" ou...

I started sprintec a week ago, I've never taken bc before. I took the first blue pill in the pack before I got my period, my doc said to take the Sunday after my period but I didn't wait, I started taking it when I bought them, now im late and I just had a single spot of blood in my undies. Is this normal for a person to miss a period and when do I take the white pills? Do I have to stop the blue ones and take the white ones inorder to have a period? ## I will explain a few things, so hopefully this will clear up your questions for you. The reason your doctor tells you to start them the first day of your period is so that you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If you start at any other time, you must take the pills daily, for at least 7 days, to be protected. Howev...

ok so im supposed to start the placebo week on the 9th thru the 16th. problem is i leave for vacation on the 15th. my period always starts 3days after starting the placebo week and last for 7days max. which puts me on my period while on vacation... :( should i start the placebo week early ( tomorrow) aug 2nd thru the 9th which would have me starting on the 5th thru the 11th. and just start a new pack on the 9th like normal? or should i just skip the placebo week and start a new pack to skip my period? will this work? ive never done this before and i def do not want to be on my period at all while on vacation... HELP !! please any info will be greatly appreciated. thanks. ## Hi Jay, I would just start a new pack of pills if you're desperate to skip your period. However, doing so coul...

I take sprintec, today was my last active pill and I think I dropped it in my coffee... Yeah, I'm a klutz. Would it have desolved in the coffee? I drank all my coffee but didn't find it (might have just swallowed it though). Recommendations? I feel like such an idiot... ## Hello, Mia! How are you? Oh, aren't these things just so much fun, some times? Your coffee would not neutralize the hormones, so if you drank it all, then you technically still got your dose. They are very tiny and do dissolve very fast. However, even if it wasn't in your coffee and you didn't get your dose, the disruption to your cycle shouldn't be too severe, but to be safe, make sure to take at least 7 active tablets from your new pack, before having unprotected intercourse. And be sure to d...

I recently had intercourse 9 days ago while on the pill. I started spotting on my 3rd day of the white pill, this is my first time taking birth control and I have not had my period yet. Does this mean I am pregnant? Or should I not be worried? ## Did you start taking it the first day of your period, or later in your cycle? If you started it the first day of your period, then it should have prevented ovulation this month, so there isn't a very good chance that you're pregnant, though there is still a slight one. However, if you started it at any other time during your cycle, then it would have taken 7 days for them to become effective in your body to prevent pregnancy.

Hi I have been on sprintec for about 7 months now. Last month I forgot two blue pills and two white pills but used another form of protection. Then when I went to go get my new pack the doctor hadn't ordered it in yet and I had to wait three days before started my new pack. Now I am at the end of this pack and my second day of white pills and no period. Should I be worried? ## Hell, Ananda! How are you? There is always some risk of getting pregnant if you are actively engaging in intercourse, regardless of what contraceptive method you used. If you had to wait 3 days before being able to start your new pack and didn't take them for a full 7 days, before having intercourse, then there was an increased risk, because ovulation could have occurred. However, only being 2 days late is...

I had one pill left in my pack of tri-sprintec that I took on Sunday but when I picked my new pack up on Monday they switched me to tri-previfem. Is it ok to take evn though I took a different brand Sunday? ## Yes, they are exactly the same, the Tri=Previfem is just a generic for the Tri-Sprintec. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. If you check the ingredient labels, you should see that they are identical in the amounts. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## Hi Max, Because both brands contain the same active ingredients, in my opinion it should be just fine to take the other set of pills. When you switch brand names or manufacturers the drug itself doesn't change, but rather the binders or fillers that they put with it. However I do want to mention that certain ...

I am on Sprintec birth control, and I am always bad with taking my pills, and this month I have tried to given myself my period early and I have not had my period. I have had no intercourse/oral and I had to take a pregnancy test last month and it showed up negative and I had a period last month that was slightly worse then my others. I have also had weird things happen like cramps in the morning, and back pain, but I think my back pain is from me getting off my bunk bed is a weird way. Idk if this is influenced by it, or if these random things, THANK YOU. ## Hello, Betsy! How are you doing? How did you try to give yourself your period early? These are hormonal contraceptives, so they can cause some oddities to your cycle. Have you consulted your doctor about it? ## Instead of waiting f...

I am 37 yrs old my doctor prescribed sprentec to help with my heavy periods due to endometriosis. How long should it take before I see results? I have been on my period for 5 days and it has not showed any signs of slowing? ## Hi, Misty! How long have you been taking the Tri Sprintec? If you just started it a few days ago, when you started your period, then it's far too soon for it to have an effect. You most likely won't see any changed until your next period. Usually, heavy periods are caused by a deficiency in Progesterone and that is very common with endometriosis, your age can also play a role, since anovulatory cycles usually start around age 35. Since this contraceptive contains both a form of estrogen and progesterone, it may help with your heavy bleeding. ## Hello I wen...

Today was my first day taking birth control ever I took the pill at nine this morning but I want to take it at night. Can I take it at seven tomorrow night? ## Ye, when you're just starting, it's really not going to make a big difference to delay the next one by a few hours. If you're on your period, because you started it the first day of it, it'll make no difference, at all. If you're not, because you started it at some other point in your cycle, then just be a little extra cautious and wait until you've taken 7 in a row at the new 7pm time, before risking unprotected intercourse. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No that was it thank you:)

ok so I started my period on 9/11. started sprintec on 9/26. had intercourse 9/30. I missed one pill the 3rd day but have been taking them everyday since then. when should I expect my first cycle? ## Hello, Grace! How are you? If you engaged in unprotected intercourse that soon after starting them, then there's a chance you could be pregnant. They are not effective that fast and your doctor should have informed you of that, when they were prescribed. If you start them on the first or second day of your period, you are immediately protect, since they will prevent ovulation that month. However, if you start them at any later point, then they must be taken for a full 7 days, before they will become effective in your body and prevent pregnancy…..and that also means not missing any...

Hey I've started taking BC for the first time ever on Aug 4th the week of my period and two weeks later my period stayed off than when i started my whites pills it started again and never went off and i am on the third pack and i really want my period to be off by now, but its still on what do i have to do to stop my period or how long should i wait. ## Hello, Tbabes! How are you? That has to be very annoying. Usually, it can take about 3 months for such side effects to stop, but since you're still experiencing the bleeding into your third pack, that means that just might not be the right one for you to take. Have you contacted your doctor, yet? They should be able to prescribe an alternative contraceptive that you can try.

Ok, so I just got married and started the pill right before I got married. The first month everything was normal and I started my period like clockwork the first day of the white pill. Month number 2 rolls around, I am on my 3rd day of white pills and no period. Should I be concerned. Is pregnancy possible. As far as I know I have not missed any blue pills and done very well in taking them. ## If you are worried, it never hurts to consult your doctor, just in case. However, menstrual irregularities are normal, when you are new to taking hormonal contraceptives, because your body does have to adjust to the changes in hormones and you may experience irregular bleeding, or missed periods for the first 3 months, or so. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I have taken two packs of ...

I've been on Sprintec for 5 months and I skipped my first set of placebos and I started bleeding and have been for a week now. I'm guessing its breakthrough bleeding but it's bothersome. I'm wondering if my body is just telling me I'm outta wack since I went two packs back to back. How much longer will this last I wonder? Pretty annoying. ## Hell, Jackscal! How are you? Has the bleeding stopped, yet? Some women's bodies just can't handle the use of hormones straight through their cycle, which can cause breakthrough bleeding, or spotting. In most cases, taking a break during your next schedule period week get it to stop. If it doesn't, you should consult your doctor. But a week isn't considered an abnormal amount of time for your period to last, it can...

Hi , I started sprintec in may , so Ive been taking it for 3 1/2 months . I stopped 3 weeks ago , while I was taking the white pills and on my period . I started trying a week later but nothin yet . How long do you think it will be for me to be able to conceive again ? ## Hi, Toni! How are you? It will likely take a a few months, before you ovulate and can conceive a child. These hormonal contraceptives primarily work by suppressing ovulation and it can take awhile for things to rebalance, so it happens again naturally, once you stop taking them. Have you consulted your doctor?

I've been taking Sprintec regularly for about a year and a half. I just got my prescription refilled at a different pharmacy and they gave me Mono-Linyah. I want to know what the differences are, if any, between the two. I've been told before that switching birth controls can cause you to bleed and have adverse effects on your hormone levels. I do not want to take the new prescription if the effects will be that drastic, I would rather return this and have my prescription refilled at my regular pharmacy if this is the case. Input is much appreciated! ## In order to provide you with a generic, the pharmacy can only give you one that is equivalent to that which you were originally prescribed, so they're the same, the new one is just a generic manufactured by a different compan...

I started sprintec 3 months ago. The first month my cycle was 7 days late... the second month it was 10 days late. Is this normal?? I'm waiting on the 3rd cycle now..... ## Yes, when starting oral contraceptive tablets, it can take about 3 months, for your body to adjust to the medication and such irregularities are normal. However, if it continues past that point, this may not be the right birth control for you to use and you should consult your doctor. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I have recently started birth control Friday which also was the first day of my period. I have ovarian cysts and a hernia by my belly button. I am wondering if it was okay to start the bc on the same day of my cycle or will it mess it up? my cycles are irregular already. please let me kn...

I started my period on Tuesday, but by yesterday (Saturday) my period ended, I was told to start the pack the Sunday after my period started, but since it ended yesterday does that mean I have to wait a full month to start it? Will it harm me/be effective to start it now? ## HI, Megan! Sorry about the confusion that seems to have been created for you. You should have started it the first day of your period, regardless of what day of the week it was, it doesn't have to be a Sunday. Starting that day means that you are immediately protected against pregnancy. You can start them at any time, but then you'll have to wait a full 7 days, before you are protected against pregnancy, which means using some back up form of protection if you engage in intercourse. You should, however, doub...
