Sprintec - Early Bleeding

I have been taking Sprintec for a while now, take my pills consistently and have never missed a day ever. I had sex on a Sunday, the first day of week 3 of the blue pills. That Tuesday I started bleeding (even though I was still on the blue pills). I bled for about 5 days straight. It was a light period -but was it a period at all (or breakthrough bleeding)? I am now on day 4 of the white pills, and even though I have cramps and feel like I'm going to start my period, I haven't yet. Should I expect a period this week? Why would I have a period while on the blue pills? A friend says I shouldn't bleed on the blue pills and that I should get a higher strength pill. Is this true?

Since they are hormonal based contraceptives, it can be normal to experience these episodes of breakthrough bleeding, they can be as heavy as a regular period, or just light spotting. However, unless it starts to happen all the time, there is nothing to worry about.

And you may, or may not have a period this week, there is really no way for anyone to say.

No, your friend is not correct, it has nothing to do with the strength of the pill, it has to do with your body and how it reacts to the hormones in the pill.

If the issue continues, you should contact your doctor, as it may be necessary for you to switch contraceptives. Our bodies always change over time and it could just be that these ones are no longer right for you to take.

Is there anything else I can help with?
