I have been diagnosed with having a mycobacterium infection. I am currently working asking one tablet in the morning and one in the afternoon to the Bactrim DS 800/160mg. Is there anything stronger? I have just taken the pm dose of day four. Should I be seeing signs this medication working by now? My doctor says I may have to have surgery to remove infection if the Bactrim doesn't work.

This is a very potent antibiotic. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, stomach pain, and diarrhea.
Has there been any change? Is surgery the only option your doctor has posited?
