Hi Janet - yes, this SMX-TMP is a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, in the ratio of 5 to 1, used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections (including urinary tract infections).

I just had surgery 3 weeks ago. Removed 2 stones in Parotid gland, sent home with ceflex, I was faithful and used every bit. 2 days ago UTI came on. Rx'd w SMZTMP DS 800-160 2x daily for only 3 days. I called yesterday for test results and positive for E coli. Now we are on a holiday weekend and I took my last SMZ TMP pill a little while ago. I was fine all day, up till an hour ago. Same symptoms. Pain urinating, burning, urgency to go. I can't concentrate on anything but this. It's driving me crazy. I did take a left over med from the last time I had a damn UTI. Since Ecoli is positive and holiday weeked, I'm uncomfortable, and in pain. Any help.......thank you. Kathy
