Smz Tmp Ds 800 160 Tab Sun Sensitivity? (Top voted first)

This medication says you should stay out of the sun, just wondering why? What would the side effects be if I was in the sun for a while?

Most medications that tell you to stay out of the sun contain photo-toxic/light-sensitive chemical properties that may have an effect on your skin (possibly rash, or quickly sunburn, etc) if your in direct sunlight for a given length of time. Also one could experience nausea or headache from this. I'm not aware of any other possible side effects, but I would suggest wearing lots of high spf sunblock if you do go out in direct sunlight after taking the medication to help prevent any of this from happening. Or if you are able to do so, try and schedule to take this medication in the evening hours so you don't even have to worry about going outside and experiencing a reaction.

I was prescribed this med &have taken it for 5yrs.after I had a double-lung Transplant due to a chronic lung disease called cystic fibrosis. I take one pill every Mon,Wed,Fri. as an anti-bacterial. I also take many other meds so probably not able to accurately differentiate side-effects w/which meds, but I do know most common are: nausea, vomiting, headache. Never heard of it as a "dangerous" drug until reading some of the comments on this website...surely makes me want to look into it further. Has anyone experienced dark patches on skin after being in Sun while on SMZ/DMP?

Just started this med for supposive bronicle issues while having laryngitus. Tried 2 antis and no change on top of decongestants cough meds and what not. Hot teas motrin tylenol ect. 2 weeks of this and no change. More in my throat than lungs. Doc did quick strep test which came up negative. Soreness discomfort annoying cough and horrible change in voice. Any ideas? Docs wont do anything else and im at a loss
