Smz Tmp Ds 800 160 Lingering Side Effects

Smz Tmp DS 800 160 was prescribed along with steroids to treat a mold infection I had in my sinuses. Had great difficulty with digestion during the 15 days prescribed, and had to take over the counter medicine to alleviate severe heartburn, and ice cream for stomach discomfort. After completion of prescription 5 months ago and to date, have been left with a condition of Lactose Intolerance (never experienced before) and one or two days a month of severe fatigue and some joint pain. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about your experience with Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. This antibiotic does seem to have a great deal of undesirable side effects - even associated with short-term use.

I know that you can always report serious adverse effects to the FDA's MedWatch program at: fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm; however your doctor may have some other suggestions to help you heal any damage that's been done to your digestive system in the process.
