Sleepy Side Effect Of Brintellix (Top voted first)

Updated

I've been taking Brintellix (10 mg) for 18 days now. I was taking Effexor and then the generic version Venlafaxine since 2008 and was interested in a new medication. I thought that the Venlafaxine made me gain weight, not sure. So, since taking this Brintellix, I've been VERY groggy, and sleepy. Been having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, and sleep later than usual. Hard to have energy to do things throughout the day. Does this go away with time? Overall, the medication works fine, however this sleepiness is too much.

I switched from Effexor to Brintellix in September of 2015, I have also been taking Vyvanse for last five years. I had to stop the Effexor because of excessive sweating. Now that I'm on Brintellix I have a very hard time falling asleep so now I'm taking Ambien for that. My mind will not shut down, I can't mentally relax and I feel tired all the time. Could the combination of Brintellix and Vyvnase be causing this? My dr and I are at a loss, we adjusted my Brintellix dosage from 20mg back down to 15 and there is now improvement.

I was taking Cymbalta for several years Not only for my depression, but also from Fibromyalgia. Il stopped working.for both conditions, My doctor started me on Brintellix.
At first it did make me tired after a couple of months It started me fill great. my depression was in check.
Remember when we all start something new it can take up to three months to adjust to our brain.
Maybe they have a smaller dose to start you on .
I hope that this helps, and you start feeling better soon :)

Switched from Zoloft to Brintellix. I was on Zoloft 50mg for about a year, saw psychiatrist to switch to another antidepressant due to the weight gain and side effects. I tapered off the zoloft for a week while starting 10mg brintellix. I have good days and bad days, no nausea whatsoever or constipation but definitely groggy and lack of energy. The thing that scares me the most is my irritability, anger and agitation at every little thing, it has now been 2 weeks on brintellix and u don't know if it's going to go away. I have a follow up appointment with psychiatrist in a weeks time but really feel like just stopping because I don't want to feel so angry. Is this normal? Anyone else experienced this side effect?

Hello, Sheva! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.

The excessive drowsiness may be due to stopping the other, coupled with side effects from starting the Brintellix.

As listed by the FDA, other possible side effects may include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, bloating and unusual dreams.

However yes, they should taper off in severity and then go away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If not, then you should speak to your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?
