Skin Rash From Doxycycline
UpdatedI'm having side effects and am wondering how long they will last. I have a skin rash and it's really burning, especially my fingers and toes.

I have been on DORYX for acne treatment for about a month now. About two weeks ago I got sunburned on my feet, but it seems like only on my toes, the burn didn't go away. It's more of a rashy look. It is also on the inner sides of my hands. It tingles when the rash is in cold water and itches when the sun gets on it and gets redder. I'm wondering if this will stop and exactly what caused this...I'm considering NOT taking this medicine anymore. This sucks!!
YOU are having the same reaction that I had. Doxycycline has caused me permant damage and now I cant' even go in the sun. It's been 2yrs and this weekend I went into the sun and now have those tiny little blisters again. Somehow it is still in my system my Dr. says that it has been absorbed by my bone. WHAT DO I DO NOW?
I love the beach and didn't even attempt it last summer and this year I thought for sure it couldn't still be a problem but it is. I use to love to surf and stay on the beach all day. Now I can't stay out an hr. Who can help me?
How long had you been taking DORYX? For anyone who is suggested to take this... I would advise not doing it.
I had broncitis and only took it for 6 days.
I called the FDA there are no reports of long term issues so if you continue to have this problem please report it at the FDA website
Ok well hopefully I do not have long term issues. I had taken it for at least 2 or 3 weeks before I stopped. Were you taking it to treat bronchitis? Because it was prescribed to me for acne treatment. Does it have multiple uses is what I mean.
Doxycycline is a Tetracycline class antibiotic, therefore, yes, it does have multiple uses. It is used to treat severe forms of acne and many other types of bacterial infections.
Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea.
You can read more about this medication here:

As to the side effects, it usually takes several weeks for your body to adjust to the medication, since this usually isn't taken for that long, you will usually experience some of them for the duration of treatment.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
Thank you for all the info. One last question...Is the statement on this forum that it can go into your bones true? Could it really cause you to have long term issues while the medicine is not even in use anymore?
Mine caused me to have a sun allergy, however, I do not believe it was an allergy that I created on my own. I believe that the medicine caused it and my dermatologist wanted me to think that all acne treatment pills do this. My arguement to him was that they all cause PHOTOSENSITIVITY, not a RASH.
