Sight Loss With Long Term Use Of Prednisolone

In 2006 I had kidney transplant and for seven years i have been prescribed prednisolone combined with my other anti rejection meds

In August 2012 I was laying on the bed, and when i opened my eyes, my right eye was shadowed - the central vision had gone very suddenly

Further investigations with eye clinics revealed a build up of fluid behind my right eye and this was due to long term use of the medication prednisolone. Even with draining, my vision is unlikely to get any better.

Yesterday i spoke to my hospital and asked why I was never warned of these risks and i was told that very few doctors know of these particular and rare side effects and of those who do, it is rarely mentioned as they do not wish to upset the patient.

So to all of the patients out there like me who's sight has started to deteriorate I'd really like to hear from you to get a better picture of how this drug is effecting other people

Dangerous effects to the eye and vision problems have been coming to light more and more from people that have been on some type of steroid class medication for a long period of time.

Another example would be from people that used the Nasonex nasal spray for long time periods and later developed cataracts. Just like the warnings about the issue you developed, the information is there, but most people don't know about it.
