Side Effects Of Ultracet

My 87 year old father-in-law was given Ultracet for leg pain. Whereas he has had a very sharp mind and recall he now exhibits slowness when filling out doctor office forms. His eyes lack their usual luster and he is very unsteady with his hands and feet. Is this to be expected with the use of Ultram?

It does contain a mild opiate narcotic called Tramadol, so it could cause these types of side effects. The FDA also warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

However, if it is affecting him that badly, his doctor should be informed, as it might not be the right medication for him, and he may need to try something else.
