Side Effects Of Smz/tmp Ds 800-160

I took two SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 this AM by mistake. Is there anything I should watch for and do I take the next scheduled dose in 12 hrs?

Hi Eve,

Sorry to hear about your dosing mistake. If you're feeling ok hours afterwards I wouldn't necessarily be overly concerned, but just for your information, side effects of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can include:

Painful or swollen tongue; dizziness, spinning sensation; ringing in your ears; joint pain; or sleep problems (insomnia)

More serious side effects that can occur may include:

Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild; pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding; cough, feeling short of breath; diarrhea that is watery or bloody; feeling restless or irritable, confusion, hallucinations, seizure; slow heart rate, weak pulse, severe tingling, numbness, muscle pain or weakness; nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or urinating less than usual or not at all.

I would still suggest sticking to your normal prescribed dosing regime, but you may want to let your doctor know about what happened in case he or she has any sort of specialized or personal advice for your own safety.
