Side Effects From Sulfasalazine
UpdatedI've been taking Sulfasalazine for 3 weeks (500 mg 4x daily). The side effects are very wearing: nausea, low energy, sleepiness, general feeling of blahhhhhh. I make sure to eat before taking the pills, and I drink at least 8 oz of water with the pills. Any suggestions on how to minimize these side effects? I'm hoping my body will adjust in time. Any thoughts - anyone???

Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do to prevent them, but yes, they should taper off and eventually go away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication, according to FDA reports. Generally that takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. You may also experience fever, chills, dark urine, nosebleeds, and pale skin.
Has there been any change or improvement, yet?
Has anyone had any success using Otc meds to get rid of the nausea from sulfasalazine? I've only been taking it a week and the nausea comes several hours after taking a dose. I take two 500 mg 2x daily. Any suggestions are appreciated.
