Side Effects - Unfortunate & Rare

Hello. I'm a 55 yr old lady who ruptured a disc in my spine. I was about 30lbs overweight. One of the Clinicians advised that losing the weight would help with the healing of my back. She put me on Phentermine and Topamax. The weight came off pretty fast, about 5 lbs per week. But the side effects were very unpleasant. I found myself planning my suicide. Came too close for comfort. So I weaned myself off the meds. That was 3 months ago. Since then, my hair has been falling out. It's about 3/4 gone with no regrowth yet. I also started having acne, like I'd never had before. It's like cysts on my face and upper chest. My digestive system is totally messed up with pain and diarrhea/constipation. Nothing has helped regulate it (such as Rx for IBS). All blood tests normal!!!! I think the Topamax was toxic to my body. I had problems breathing, feeling like something was squeezing my chest. I also have had weird infections like my ear cartilage got infected. Never had anything like that before. It's been a nightmare. I wish I'd never taken it. I'd rather have back surgery. I hope that eventually my body will heal and the toxins will leave. I'm eating no sugar, no preservatives, no grains etc. I'm taking lots of good vitamins and minerals, but still getting sick a lot. I have been getting major canker sores in my mouth and super dry eyes. Trying to fix the damage. Please don't think I'm trying to frighten anyone. These are my unique experiences. But, these effects are real for me. Just not worth it.

It sounds like you may be experiencing more of a hormonal imbalance, rather than side effects from the medications. Such a thing is very common, at your age. Even if you are post-menopausal, it can still take years for your hormones to completely level out and for you to stop experiencing symptoms.

Have you tried consulted a gynecologist? They might be of more help to you.
