Hi Terry,
The HCG diet seems like a pretty extreme way to lose weight. Personally, I have my doubts about it's long term effectiveness, due to the lack of calories and nutrients needed to fuel your mind & body throughout the day, everyday. You can easily determine the side effects of eating 500 calories a day, by only eating 500 a day and assessing how you feel (although I don't recommend trying it for your own sanity).

Based on statistics and popular opinion, if you're looking for long-term weight loss, it really just comes down to a healthy proportioned diet (sufficient calories) and a consistent (moderately-intense) exercise regime.
