Side Effects Following Prolia Injection (Page 2)
UpdatedI am 60 yrs old and suffer from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and myofascial pain syndrome. After discussing with my endocrinologist, I received my first injection of Prolia two days ago. Had diarrhea approximately 12 hrs later in the middle of the night. Awoke the next day with headache over entire head and face. That evening (12:30 am) I vomited approximately 10 times in succession. Awoke 5 hrs later with terrible pain and tightness from the top of my head down my neck, shoulders, and upper back. I am frightened to see where the pain will travel next, especially after reading the posts on this forum. Is there a drug out there to counteract the Prolia. I will definitely not be getting another shot in 6 mos. My doctor told me that the main side effect of this drug is worsening of skin conditions, such as eczema. Does anyone have any suggestions?
On another thread -- Prolia side effects -- we just had news of another losing her life to Prolia. Skittie has been on this and there seems to be between 4000-5000 deaths caused by Prolia. FYI~
Lulu~Prolia is only for people for whom all the other drugs did not work. It is the drug of last resort - not first choice. It's printed in plain language on Amgen's site, the manufacturer of Prolia. Apparently, Drs. need to learn how to read. There are no ands, ifs, ors or buts about it. That is what the manufacturer wrote and means. Pood
Daisy~This is a little difficult to understand so here goes. Everything alive or has ever been alive on Planet Earth is carbon based. That means there are half lives and there is never an end to half lives as they go to infinity. Amgen states the half life of Prolia is 26 days so 1/2 of it will be gone from the body in 26 days, then 26 more days another 1/2 of that 1/2 and another 26 more days another 1/2 of that 1/2 on to infinity. Prolia is biologic, made from elements that grow or grew on this Earth of ours. It can never, ever totally leave the human body. This is how we are able to find out how old some antiquity is by carbon dating, which means how much carbon is left in that particular antiquity. Now go give your Doc a lesson. Be well~Pood
Kitty~It's just a different thread owned by this site…Prolia side effects. I think it has a larger following than this one does but both contain good info that people need. I don't know how I got switched. Maybe just posted in an area I had not been in previously. We have a lot of really knowledgeable people on that one that have had numerous inj's. and lived to tell their stories. I feel like I'm back here repeating everything again. Also have one that got the broken femur while on first inj. I also posted an amazing one on how Amgen got Prolia past the FDA.
How Prolia got past the FDA - It's called Mission Creep Changed to Warning Creep: Soon Prolia began to appear no safer than the bisophosphonates though it belonged to a different class of drugs. A monoclonal antibody derived from genetically engineered Chinese hamster ovary cells, Prolia carries warnings like other “MoAbs” about opportunistic infections, anaphylaxis and worse. Two years after its approval, Amgen issued warnings that Prolia could cause serious risks like "hypocalcemia, serious infections, suppression of bone turnover, including osteonecrosis of the jaw” as well as “atypical femoral fracture” and “dermatologic adverse events." Notably, these are the same risks bisphosphonates bone drugs pose. Six months ago also reported osteonecrosis of the jaw with Prolia.
Everyone has heard of "mission creep." In the pharmaceutical world, “approval” creep means getting the FDA to approve a drug for one thing and pushing a lot of other drug approvals through on the coattails of the first one.
But there is another, more insidious creep seen with drugs like Prolia- "warning creep": acknowledging new and alarming warnings after a drug is approved and in wide use.
Like so many expensive drugs aggressively marketed today--Prolia costs roughly $1650 a year—a risky drug made billions despite its risks, which were clear when it was first approved. Prolia “provided Amgen with $884 million in US sales between 2011 and 2013 and $1.4 billion worldwide for this same stretch,” This is why we have to continually be after the FDA with each and every side effect. Now you know the truth~
Thank you. I'm spent with pain. My lupus doc said I didn't have to worry about him taking me off. Since 6 months ago I was cut in half of my dose, half again and then now nearly nothing! Now that its been almost a month since my 1st shot of Prolia my hips and groin hurt really bad! When I saw him he gave me a few shots of steroid in the hips and said that he was not without sympathy, hr would give me a few 10 MG's. to help me thru. Insurance Co. rejected it and now he is sending me to a pain dr. Which would be fine but last time I went. it was a disaster! He said my doc didn't know what he was doing and berated him for 10 mins. My doc apologized and said he would never do that again to me but since this denial he made me an appt. W/ another one! Looked him up on health grades and he didn't get good reviews. I'm so tired of hurting more and more, Losing weight, no appetite, and ready to throw in the towel! I can't deal with this anymore! If these drugs were cheap, obody would be having problems getting what we need and the dose we need. Tired of it all!!!!
pliz... my mother died after the 6th Prolia.... Don't let they muse your body for these statistics
I think I may have been wrong about Actonel. it may be one of the good guys like Calcitonin is. Check it out. @Kitty~not websites, just different threads on this site. It all depends on how one words the question regarding Prolia side effects. Seek here on medschat and you will find them. Hugs~
Oh god ladies! Wish I had found this blog six months ago! I have been suffering with 3 different types of arthritis now for around ten years and in such horrible pain! All of your stories have opened my eyes! My arthritis told me prolia had more pros than cons for side effects. That is so far from the truth! I just had my second injection of prolia and was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes yesterday! My pain has become so intolerable I cannot hardly stand it anymore. Please, which medication is the best with less side effects??? I cannot live this way much longer. I go to pain management but the prolia has poised my body so bad don't know if there is anything out there to reverse all the damage of the injections. I'm thankful for stumbling on this blog and please keep posting and sharing your experiences! My husband tells me just walk it out or runs around the block. I need be in a circle with people who understand. Thank you all and God bless!
don't use prolia .... my mom died 2 months ago after the 6th injection.... u don't have a idea...how much she suffered in less than 5 days...
Hi Karen and welcome on behalf of all of us - the unfortunate victims of the poison called Prolia. You have had 2 inj's. of Prolia which makes your world really bad. Prolia makes arthritis feel like a great day - that's how horrid it is. I got a cataract from it too and had to fly to a big city to have it removed. How long does this Hell you are in last? Well, a lot of it depends on you as we are all different. I had pain meds and sleeping meds so that helped a lot. Also gave me Celiac Disease which left when it left. For me, I felt well in the 5th month just as Amgen, the manufacturer, said I would. I had my cataract surgery one day before my 'magic' day when Prolia is supposed to go poof. Well, unfortunately, the Prolia does go "poof' but the side effects from just one inj. can easily last 11 months. I was lucky. How did you feel before you had your second inj.? That will pretty much let us know what to expect will be coming. About all of my side effects are gone and we are tapering down on the sleeping meds.(almost 1 year). I lost 65 pounds while on Prolia and got down to only 100 and the body can get somewhat 'stuck' and not want to put on weight so I have to do my best to get all the calories in that I can. Now, back to you. Prolia LOVES Calcium so please take 1200mg morning and 1200mg evening or however you want to space them out. If it does not get the calcium it wants, that's when it starts in on our muscles as they contain calcium as the human body really is unable to store it. Keep with your Dr. and have your calcium level checked monthly. Make sure your calcium has the correct amount of Vitamin D in it too. Please tell every side effect you get to the FDA if you live in the US. Also, report them to Amgen as they are required by law to report what is reported to them to the FDA. I don't know for sure if you can have your cataracts removed until you are free of Prolia as it also takes down a large part of our immune system. It's such a simple procedure now they may do it but you would be on a lot of antibiotics for an extended period of time as you sure don't want to get an infection in there. It also depends on how bad they are. If you can see pretty well, put it off for as long as possible. If you have other questions, please ask. We, the survivors, are here for people like you and to also warn people to stay away from Prolia. It's chemo - bad drug. Tell your hubby to stuff it and stay in bed, rest and take good care of yourself. I know if you have RA too, it is best to move about some as the body needs to 'loosen' up. Be well~
So sorry to hear that and thank you for sharing. I only hope more people find this site and read what others are also saying.
Definatey has made my skin condition worse. My scalp is pealing!
Just bearing with it until it slowly dissipates is all I know. Magnesium large dose helped muscle spasms and muscle pain
I had better outcomes with Accupuncture than anything.
Hi~someone posted on another Prolia thread here they use something with oatmeal to take a bath and there is a special lotion made by a well known company that has iCalming before it's name. You may want to look at the threads here on medschat on Prolia side effects as that is where she just posted this information very recently. She said it really helped with the Prolia skin problems. We have about 6 Prolia threads going on here and most people seem to land on the one entitled Prolia side effects. It all depends on how you word your question I guess as to where you land. It would be lovely if we could all be together; however, some people want to know Prolia side effects duration, hair falling out with Prolia and many more. Be well~Pood
Of this was a med for a man with all the terrible side effects it would have been pulled from the market. Tell dr. And fill in form for the FDA
My Prolia injection from a few months ago continues to affect my whole body, inside and out. Muscle and bone pain, low energy, chronic cough, itching all over from head to toe, vaginal itching, loose teeth, weak bladder and leaking, diarrhea that changes to constipation... weak hands and eye muscles... I need to boost my immune system. What site did you visit and what are you taking to boost it, so I can ask my doctor...
