Side Effect Of Mazetol- Low Platelets

Dear Doctors,
My father has been taking Mazetol for about 10 years , for treatment of Trigeminal neuralgia. His platelets have come down slowly over this period of time from 100,000 to 50,000. Does anyone else face this platelet reduction due to Mazetol ? What is the way to ascertain that reduction is caused by Mazetol? What are the alternate medicines? Please advise asap.
