Should I Take Plan B While On Nexplanon?

I've been on Nexplanon for about 6 or 7 months now and I just started antibiotics this past week. I had a condom break during intercourse, should I take Plan B? Is it okay to take it while on Nexplanon?

Hello, Whitisme! How are you?

Antibiotics are not known to reduce the efficacy of Nexplanon. It uses a form of progesterone to prevent pregnancy.

When antibiotics cause issues with contraceptives, it's usually the oral ones that contain estrogen, as well as a progesterone. Antibiotics can cause you to absorb less of the estrogen, which may nullify their efficacy. You can research this via the NIH.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Is there anything else I can help with?
